The Porsche Exhaust Conspiracy
The Porsche Exhaust Conspiracy
I think Porsche has conspired to sell more Burmeister options with its Panamera sales by neutering the exhaust note. My turbo was way too quiet for my tastes. I felt that even the sports exhaust was a little too muted. So, knowing that I preferred to listen to my engine/exhaust than my stereo, I settled for the pedestrian Bose that came with the car. That was the right choice for me. Now about the exhaust.
I've been running a set of prototype Agency Power mufflers from Vivid Racing for about six weeks now. The transformation has been dramatic. The exhaust note in conjunction with the PDK adds a whole new dimension to the driving experience. Would you buy a Ferrari that you couldn't hear? That criteria should apply to Porsche as well.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the new exhaust. There is enough resonance at the lower rpms that there is a nice deep note to accompany you around town. No need for the Burmeister - just enjoy the live production. With increasing rpm, the exhaust velocity changes the pitch consistent with its rapidly increasing speed. Not loud and obnoxious - just powerful and authoritative.
With the already prodigious power of the Panamera Turbo, I think I can say that that an exhaust upgrade will be the single most enjoyable upgrade one can make to his car.

is there a diff exh for pan S? what is the setup? after factory resonator?
what about drone? i have a AP exh on my 03 TT and there is a drone around 2200rpm...learned to live with it but... the 2010 PAN S is wife's car...she will make me take it off if there's drone....
some FabSp exh is having drone per posting...AWE claims no drone but i don't know of anyone that has it installed one on their own car yet...all waiting for shipment...
be honest - is there a noticable drone or no ?? you can argue gray line between 'resonance' and drone but...

I don't know if there is a difference for the S. As for drone, unlike stock, you can hear the exhaust but not to the extent that its unpleasant. I have a set of in-line resonators that Vivid Racing installed just ahead of the mufflers and that may be what you need to address drone concerns. I'm aware of unwanted drone as I had a set of Eisenmann that I had to take off and go back to stock due to that issue. There is no way I would go back to stock after the Agency Power.
Pan exh from AP
ok..that sounds good... so, on the AP exh for the Pan tt, do they replace the factory resonator with their own, and then also the exhaust?
is it a separate buy or all inclusive system ?
i should check their site... dan ?
i do like AP exh tips...as on the 996TT i have.....

I agree completely. I drove a Mercedes SLS at the AMG Driving Academy in both Road Atlanta and at Laguna Seca and I really loved the sound of that car. If I'd had that car, I would not change the exhaust at all because AMG really got it right. IMO Porsche missed on the Panamera exhaust.
Performance wise, Porsche certainly did not miss. I don't believe the SLS has any advantage over my Turbo. Certainly not in acceleration, and probably little (if any) on the track.
