Me - 44. Car is amazing especially if you are active (biking) or have young kids. Also, the PDK transmission is what BMW tried to do w/SMG. To me - a merc is still decades away.

As much as I love my Pan. The new M5 is going to be a beast with the V8 twinturbo and their DCT transmission.

Yes it is, and I'm first on the list again. It will probably give the TTS a run for it's money if you're looking at highway runs. However, my guess is the M5 will tip the scales at close to 4,500 lbs 'curb weight'. Throw in a generous helping of options and we're talking 4,700 lbs with a full tank, and close to 5,000 lbs with a driver...

If the reviews say that it's returned to it's E39 roots, then I'll seriously consider it, and maybe pick it over the Pana. If it's lost any of the road feel that my E60 has, even if it will crush anything on the highway, I'll get the Pana.

1. Continue what I'm doing, and get an S with summer/winter tires. This would probably give the best performance on summer tires.

2. Use All-Season tires on a 4S for slightly less performance than summer tires, but much better performance than winter in the dry, and comparable performance to an S on winters in the ice/snow.

3. Use Summers/All-seasons on a 4S. This would probably give the best performance year-round.

How does the S handle in the snow on winter's?
I would get the 4S over the S given the fact that you will experience snow for much of the year. I know that the handling characteristics may change, but the reassurance of the extra traction is well worth it.

Actually, believe it or not it doesn't snow much in Cincinnati. We're right on the river next to Kentucky. You might see snow on the roads for 10 days in a typical winter.

The Panamera is a milestone in automotive history. For me it is the first sportscar that can carry 4 adults comfortably.
it was designed as a sportscar from the start, unlike cars like the RS6, E63 or M5, those cars are pimped out GT cars.
it offers much more than that. It even scares the **** out of many supercars on a race track.
I doubt that a M3, Carrera is faster round a track than the Balboni or SLS. well, the PTT has beaten those 2 supercars:

I'm 42, traded out of my s65 amg and couldn't be happier, I have 2 kids so I need the space occasioanlly but not very often. The AMG had a much more comfortable backseat, but hey I don't sit there! This is a driver's car no matter what anyone says - I had my PTT modifed by FVD and it would kill 99.9% of cars on the road today, especially from a stop. The new BMW may be fast once moving, but if they don't put AWD on it, no way it out performs this car. I also don't understand the logic that a porsche is an old man's car compared to a BMW, the reason you see older people driving them is they are the ones who can afford them!

Much tougher decision for you guys going from an E60 M5 to the Pan or F10.

I'm looking at getting into one or the other for the first time. I am heavily leaning towards the Pan, as BMW's reliability continues to be an issue. The interior in the Porsche is so far ahead of the BMW it's almost laughable. The fifth seat in the M5 is appealing though.

It will be interesting to see how the performance stacks up. For myself, the TT is going to be a bit of a stretch so I'm curious how the 4S will compare to the F10??? Anyone care to speculate.

The 4S will get crushed by the F10 M5 in just about every performance category. The F10 will necessarily have to be significantly better than the E60, and the E60 is better than the S/4S in a straight line, and probably runs equivalent times on the track. So why am I leaning towards the S/4S??

If I wanted a car that would 'crush' everything else, I'd just pony up $78K and buy a Nissan GTR. But the car is boring and uninvolving. That is what I really value about the S/4S - it is the most involving and responsive full sized car I've driven. That is where it may beat the F10 M5. Combined with a very high level of luxury and quality, the Pana is a tough car to beat.

I have recently started to have some buyer's remorse because nearly every Pana that I see is being driven by someone much older than I. In fact, I saw an old lady driving one which I thought must have been a mistake - she should have been in her Jaguar. I'm 42. Plus a couple of my "car guy" friends made comments that they thought this car was too "mature" for me. I started to wonder if I've made a mistake. But then I go back to the roots of my decision to buy it - what do you buy after a V10 M5 other than MAYBE the new M5? I'm not a Mercedes guy. I'll be driving into NYC every day and wouldn't do something like an Aston, Bentley or Mas for that purpose. Truly the PTT was the best option (apart from the cost, which somehow I got over). Not to get personal, but how old are you guys buying Panas?
younger than you

Porsches are not for old people, period. Mercedes, however, are for old people. The PTT is obviously the best option...there are so many reasons that it is self-evident. Maybe your buddies want you in a 911.

All that being said, I am not sure I would drive anything other than a POS in NYC. Every car is scratched and chipped to death. At least get a full clear-bra wrap, and wrap the bumpers twice

If you had to limit the budget to $100k then that is where the F10 M5 looks very attractive. If it was me I would lean towards the performance potential of the M5 vs a non-turbo Panny. The Panny will be a nicer car, more exclusive etc, but for the same money you can get a faster car.....and you know there will be lots of mods for the M5 making it even faster.
