tire and wheel insurance
tire and wheel insurance
Getting new Panamera 4s. Dealer wants to sell me wheel tire/coverage for 39 months for $1450. Is that going rate, can i buy it independent of dealer and is coverage worth while? Im getting 19" turbo wheels with allseason tires. I guess it boils down to what is cost to replace wheel/tire and how many times in 39 months i will have an issue. Live in north East so pot holes!
Thanks.
Thanks.
jisuro,
Highly recommend the tire/rim insurance if you can get it for the right price. I never purchased it for my other cars, but considering the cost of the rims and tires on the Panamera, it will pay for itself very quickly. The price is definitely negotiable and there are different levels of coverage depending on the provider (e.g. Millenium has a Gold package that covers cosmetic repairs that are not covered under the basic package). I got 5 years of Gold coverage for $795. I have already had two rim repairs in the last 3 months.

I agreed to pay 1500 for 3 years tires/wheel coverage from my dealer. They wanted 2k, and said their cost is about 1k. Since i got a good deal on the car, i figure i will let them make some profit.
Its worthwhile, although if you have 19" wheels and are in an area with good roads it is not as important as it might be for larger wheels in an area with potholes and hazards..
I got three years of coverage on my Panamera S with 20" wheels, including towing, for a price of $1000..no deductible. Their asking price is usually about $1400 or more. (I was told that their cost is about $895 but can't verify this)
I have already had two tires replaced due to road hazards in the first four months of Panamera ownership, so I am already almost even with the investment in the coverage.
By the way, on my last car with 20" wheels I had five tires and two wheels replaced in three years.. I paid $900 for that policy and I figure I got about $4000 in tire and wheel repairs and replacements.

My dealer told because the wheels/tires are 20's therefore the cost of the insurance is higher that those with smaller diameters.

Nah, I bought something similar to yours at a similar price. Remember, in the NYC area we're replacing a rim like once a month!
Not all policies are the same. I have had coverage on a few cars and found some of the companies are slower to respond and more difficult to deal with. I had a tire claim disqualified because they claimed that sidewall bubble was a defect rather than a road hazard issue...even though it only appeared after I hit a pothole...
Pricing is variable from deal to deal... this is one of those matters where the DMV/Finance person at the dealership gets a perk or commission on the warranty.. They always try to milk the most money that they can out of the tire/wheel warranty sale.
