Protective Clear Bra Film Maintenance

To all who have protective film,

I'm thinking of a full front wrap to my turbo with Premier. Since turbo is my DD and I never did this before, I have a few reservation and question for all,

- How much more trouble it is to maintain the film, Premier recommend to wash, seal and wax with every wash. In the past I’ll take the car for a full detail every 6 months and simple wash weekly myself, would film be troublesome to take care?

- My car is GT Silver and park outside under California sun at work the whole day. How long would the film last and turn yellow under the sun? Would my paint look different in a few years in area under the film?

- Do it really protects from rock chips and bird dropping? I hear it is harder to get rid of bird drops once it dry because you can’t buff it out like the clear coat?

Much appreciate your help and thoughts!

I had my PTT wrapped because of the harsh PA winters and all the road salt.

Downside is I have to get it waxed EVERY TIME I get it washed. When my car wash guy can't get to it for a while I wash it and use a spray wax. It's not as good as the hand wax.

Also, when you do get scratches in the wrap they tend to come out very slowly. What I mean by that is my guy will use a 3 step process twice and that tends to do the trick.

My Turbo is black so you know how black cars show dirt anyway.

Hand wash and wax EVERY TIME! It's a pain...

I was also thinking about pros ans cons. What I am most afraid of is how hard it is to remove this, once you have had it for a few years? The ones marketing seem to be very quiet about removal and give no guarantee. All the white cars here in Finland have yellow coats after one year because of dirt and salt, so I am wondering how the car looks after a year if you wrap it totally.

I need to give thumbs up to Moe @ GP and Krist @ Premier. Both are AWESOME people to talk to and very willing to help.

I've been in talk with both of them for couple of weeks about my concern. Both are proactive in calling each other on my behalf to come up with a good solution and recommendation.

As of today, Moe is using his own car as a test, and Chris will install different film to see their respective characteristics. They both agreed for me to wait until they are satisfied with their findings.

For both person to tell a willing customer to wait until they feel comfortable about their recommendation tell a lot about their business practice and integrity.

For the record, I’ve seen Premier’s work up close and their price is very fair and their work is very high quality.

Of course, Moe is highly recognized as a great detailer in my local area and will be my only detail guy for all of my cars.

Kudos to both.

Maintenance?? There should be none. Plexus is great stuff and should work well or Maxima silicone spray. I have never needed to wax a clear bra. Removal is quite simple, pull, light polish and wax.

I have all my cars wrapped and to date zero issues. I've exclusively used Ultimate Car Care here in SoCal for my current stable. Used another vendor in the past, and had to have it replaced after only 3 months. They were "reputable" but Ultimate CC is by far the best IMHO. After I saw the work they did on my 360 I was sold. Completely flawless, and you can't tell (even close up) that it's wrapped.

I've had great luck with plexus in the past, on plastic lenses. I'd thought about getting my cars wrapped, but was concerned about the long term effects.

All of my past cars have had full fronts and leading edges vinyl'd. The better vinyl these days have a clear coat on them and are very protective. Just wax it like normal or use a spray polish. They do protect from chips, especially on the Panamera. My biggest complaint (only one really) is how fragile Porsche's paint is on these cars. It sucks. Gues thats what happens trying to go eco friendly, quality (reliability) goes down. On my P4 I have the full front, mirrors, hood, and side rails done. Wouldn't drive it without. Just make sure you see some work from a shop before having it done, it can be tricky to do and you can easily tell a good job from a bad one.
