thx for sharing.
The Panny wins in almost all areas, except for costs.
P.S. i`d have never thought that a Panny would be more comfortable than an E-class, lol.

Yes, impressive for the Turbo S. But the M5 is king of low emissions!!
.
I would certainly expect the PTTS to be quicker from a stop and around the track. It is interesting that that once rolling, the M5 is quicker. I'm sure there will be a fair number of M5 vs PTTS autobahn/highway encounters that will surprise the PTTS owners.

You gotta look at the time difference to figure that one out. Obviously, AWD gets you started fast from 0 to whatever. However, once it rolls, M5 pulls ahead of Panny. From that perspective, M5 wins.

i could only find numbers for the acceleration from a stop in that test, or am i missing something?
I am sorry, but that is not true. You are making assumptions. The M5 suddenly starts gaining the PTTS at about 130KM/h, until that the difference is stable, but the M5 catches up very slowly, so from about 130km/h to 200km/h the M5 gained about 0.3sec. This can be up to gearing and no assumption can be made of what happens after that, the M5 might change a gear the PTTS might not. You need to measure it before you know. Also assumptions that autobahn races will be lost with the PTTS to the M5 cant be made, because that is up to the gear you are in, how quickly the turbos spool up etc. The turbos spool up instantly in the PTTS, whereas the M5 has huge turbo lag as has been reported previously. So the M5 lost in every way, also in consumption.

all i am gonna say is that M5 will be a big threat to turbo s (granted performance/dollar) based on "speculations"

For instance, just calculate the 60-100 times from the tables:
PTTS 1.9 sec
M5 1.7 sec
for the 80-120 times,
PTTS 2.3 sec
M5 2.1 sec
You will get the same results for any speeds above 60 - the M5 is quicker. If it was gear ratios, this wouldn't be the case, there would be speed intervals after 60 where the PTTS was quicker, but there aren't. So, at any speed above 60 according to this test, the M5 will pull ahead.
Just setting expectations for the inevitable Autobahn/highway runs between these two cars. Of course, I'm sure we'll see more data, and maybe we'll see more straight line speed from the PTTS.
Is anyone who owns a PTTS THAT shallow that this would be an issue? We're talking TENTHS of a second. Crucial on a race track, completely unimportant in the real world. These cars simply do not compare in any conceivable way that would involve cross shopping. Both are stupendous performers, regardless of price. But one has all wheel drive, the other does not. One has an impeccable interior, the other has a very good interior for it's price. I just don't get the comparison except to look at numbers that have no significance 99.5% of the time. Is anyone's EGO quite that large that they're going to lose sleep if the guy down the street can travel from 80 to 120mph 2 TENTHS of a second quicker than him? Really? PTT and PTTS are in a different league. Not saying that makes them superior, and I'm certainly not panning the M5 (which I love), but I've never understood the need to compare stats that this close and at this ridiculously high threshold. At this point, I'm more concerned with which has the better stereo, better electronics, is more reliable, has more "wow" factor. Maybe I'm just old.
I think there is really no comparison. If we all bought a car for strictly performance we would all own GT-R's.
It seems that everyone here has moved up the 4-door car food-chain BMW---> AMG---> Panamera----> ?
The BMW is invisible and will remain that way - the Panamera is unique and has great performance.
My biggest worry is what is my next car PTT-S or Rapide or some other car. The AMG's and M-cars are no longer even a consideration as it would be a step backwards

These results are pretty easy to interpret. Once traction is no longer an issue, the M5 pulls harder than the PTTS at all speeds. Starting from 60 kph, or 38 mph, take any speed interval and the M5 is quicker. This jives with other reports that I've heard, but haven't been published.

If AWD is being offered in the M5, and I'm shopping for a sport sedan or SUV right now, then I definitely will take the M5 over PTT. I miss having a 5th seat and bigger trunk in the Panamera sometimes. The second best alternative will be Cayenne turbo.
