Do you find the engine shut-off feature useful?

I had this feature in my 750ix MSport and I never used it. I've been using it in the Panamera since I drove it from the dealer's lot almost 2 weeks ago and, so far, its function seems almost imperceptible. I consciously drove my Pana with this system off the other day and I cannot honestly say that I noticed any difference. I think I'll continue using it. What is the consensus on the engine shut-off feature in the Panamera?

It works fine except when you are crossing a busy street, you wait for the opening and just as you are taking it your engine dies, scares the hell out of me sometimes. Also turn it off while waiting for engine oil temp to rise. Why cant it do that automatically? And why doesnt it shut down when you put the car in park, drive ins etc? Thats when Id mostly want it to work. Autobild tested these and Panny was one of the best.

stopped using it for a long time. Hated it during heavy traffic, engine keeps turning on and off.

The constant on and off drives me crazy on heavy traffic. But I tend to leave it on when driving in not so busy times of the day. I love the peace and quiet on the stop light. I think overall the system is pretty reasonable although I had a couple of scares when crossing busy streets!

Actually, I think it works pretty darned well. If you don't like it, you can just hit the off button and it defaults to off so you'll never have to worry about it again. It does give you almost 2mpg more when you're just sitting in traffic though, so I do use it.

Accidentally activated it once and never turn it on again. It really did scared me but how much gas can you really save from the feature? Who knows...

I like it. The fact that you have a choice to use it or not makes all the difference. There are certain intersections that I know are long lights so I use it when I believe that I'll be sitting for a while. Otherwise, in most situations, I don't use it. I like the ability to choose. If I didn't have that choice, then I would not like this feature.

i keep it off most of the time but when i anticipate a long red light (i remember reading somewhere that it takes a minimum of 6 seconds of the engine being off to start saving gas vs idling) i turn it on, then turn it off again when the car is moving. the AC also shuts off when engine isn't running so if it's really hot outside i don't use it.

My wife hates it. It scares her passengers. Her memory settings got erased until she quit using it altogether.
Porsche released a software update and I think it fixed the issue, but she will never know.
I will probably give it a fair shot in my new cayenne when it comes in.

Use mine all the time. It's so easy to just turn the engine back on by lifting off the break pedal if you don't want it off when turning left for example. In heavy traffic, I find the transmission behaves better in sport mode which deactivates the auto shut off anyhow.

Love it, works great, and who ever said the AC stops working is not correct,, AC continues to work for sometime, And when it gets to the point where it will warm up the car starts to keep it cool... 0 Difference in cooling,, Works great..

And if your worried about going to gun it, and it dies, " race someone" keep the damn button off .. use some common sense
