S vs 4S

Comments who have driven both? Is it worth the extra $ to get the all wheel drive? I am in West Coast so don't really need the all wheel drive. Wanted to see everyone's thoughts who have driven both. The 4S is faster and both get the same mpg. But what about steering and handling, etc.

After driven lots of cars awd vs rwd, its allways the same story. Awd better from dig allways, hence better 0-60, in the rain and in the snow, on the highway you wont tell the difference, its NOT faster. Awd tends to understeer at the limit. Trust me, the only thing you need to think about is do you need the traction.

I agree with Kip, While I have not driven the two cars the none AWD variant will have a more "pure" steering feel. With that said if you ever venture to the mountains for skiing etc AWD is the way to go. I live in the NE and while we do get snow I have been driving Audi Quattro's for 20+ years just because we spend so much time in VT during the winter...90% of the miles we put on our cars we do not need AWD but when we do it is worth it.

Cheers,
Jim

My preference will always be for AWD...power is transferred "evenly" to all four wheels and the vehicle literally leaps from the line. In my opinion, AWD is as much a performance handling feature as it is for safety.

I'd go with 2wd. In CA, don't need awd unless you want to take it to tahoe.

In CA, unless you plan to ski often or take your car on the track, you are not going to see a difference between S and 4S. I drive a S and it is not a very fast car. It is not like I would race a 911 or a M5. they will blow me away. Consider the S or 4S a luxury sport sedan, you are not going to have a chance using the AWD capabilities.

I actually find the PS quite slow (coming from a 911).

On the other hand, if you want to track it, you should get 4S, or even better the GTS.

I am in CA. I am hearding that if you are in CA, you don't need all wheel drive. The 4S is faster than the S from the stats online.
But handling, I am not sure if S or 4S is better.

Yes, the GTS is great, but a bit of a stretch right now. So I will have to test drive both S and 4S and see how they differ in handling and speed.

Handling will always be better with AWD. I tested the Pana4 and it's definitely no slouch. Yes, the 4S is more powerful...I ultimately got the 4S because I like the bigger engine...but the 4 is still a great performer. My suggestion is to do what I did...test drive them all.
