Porsche Panamera Sports Exhaust Worth It?

I just bought a new 2013 Porsche Panamera Turbo. It did not include the Sports Exhaust. I can purchase it and have it added by my dealer (including the button in the center console).

But I have heard that Turbo owners don't really notice any improvement in sports exhaust with it activated. Is this true or is it noticeable?

I am not looking for some crazy-sounding exhaust that is inconsistent with what you would expect out of the car. But I also am coming from a 2009 BMW M3 with the BMW M Performance exhaust package. The best part of my day was driving into and out of my work building's parking garage - the M performance exhaust sounded so great. I would really love to get that back!

Any suggestions? I don't want to spend a fortune either. And I think that with a Turbo, swapping out for something else is not a trivial matter.

Thanks (in advance) for your help.

I think the consensus is that is not worth it. If you want the growl you got to go with AM exhausts. There plenty out there to choose from.

I would save that money you will spend and put it towards a catback or full system.

Good Luck.

Definitely not worth it! I had it installed afterwords just because I was curious, I would now go with Tubi or AWE

I actually listened to Tubi this morning at Champion Motorsport. It sounds way better and louder than my PSE.

Yep, I test drove a turbo with PSE. It's not worth installing after the fact.

Huge difference outside, practically no difference inside. If you have warranty, aftermarket exhausts might affect that. Look at the video I posted below vs m5 etc in german, there he toggles with the pse button and looks surprised as he sees no difference, but you can hear a small base increase...

It is not worth it, I'd suggest to go for aftermarket exhaust system instead of the PSE. There is not much difference, plus its a turbo so it won't sound as beastly as the N/A. IPE exhaust should be a good option.

So as of right now I am looking at FabSpeed's exhaust and x-pipe. I want something more throaty than the current exhaust, but I don't want something obnoxious. That is one of the few things I miss about my M3. I had the BMW performance exhaust. It sounded awesome, particularly in parking garages, but I NEVER thought it was loud enough to be inappropriate around town or in my neighborhood.

Anyone have any experience/feedback on FabSpeed's exhaust for the Panamera? Again, no ECU flash, etc for me. The car is plenty fast. Just looking for some nice sound given the Turbo is so muted.

You ever thought about the exhaust from AKRA?

They make the OEM exhaust for our Porsche's and their aftermarket quality is superb. It's probably the sound levels you want too.

I would also look into the tubi style exhaust.

This is good info. I've been kicking around the idea of a Panamera S or GTS and was wondering the same thing.

I've got just the downpipes on my Panamera and with the PSE it sounds great, yet quiet at cruise. It really wakes up the Panamera, especially if you get an Evomsit tune on it.

The PSE sounds best on the Panamera GTS because Porsche rigged that car with the Sound Symposer [first introduced on the 991]. It basically opens up valves in the A-pillar that allow engine noise to growl back into the cabin and it creates an INCREDIBLE atmosphere. The other Panamera models can be equipped with the PSE but as other posters have said, although the noise outside really picks up, there is almost no conceivable difference inside the cabin due to compartment insulation/the lack of the Sound Symposer on every model except the GTS.

Although I wouldn't usually say this, save yourself a few thousand dollars and tinker around with a few aftermarket mods.

Agree. On my PTT with sport exhaust it was a waste of $3k; couldn't hear a difference. Aftermarket would have to be better. As for the GTS, the exhaust sounds really great, but only in Sport Plus mode I think; the sound symposer feature isn't as impressive as its made out to be, nothing like on the 991, on that car it is truly amazing.

Yes, on my 2011 PT I've recently done the fabspeed downpipes with 200cell sport cats coupled with their x pipe and kept the stock pse mufflers and tailpipes for a stock look and functionality. I also updated the intake side with the IPD intake plenum and bmc filters and also retuned with GIAC ecu upgrade-tuned for 91oct in Calif. Car feels dramatically faster with a nice bark on startup and much throatier growl on acceleration with smoother and faster spool. Yet, remains very civilized and in character for a turbo when not on it. Will post dyno chart soon.
