Panamera Winter wheels
Panamera Winter wheels
Just bought a 2010 Panamera Turbo. It comes with 21" HRE P40's. I am looking for a winter set, and another "factory" set. Those that have run in the winter snow conditions with sand and gravel and deicer fluid that gets dumped on the roads, what do you recommend?
Cheapest of course would be a 19" set with Sotto Zero tires, but of course I would never want to run them on the car in the summer, as I don't care for the looks.
Next would be the RS Spyder 20" with Sotto Zero tires.
Highest priced option would be Turbo II's with Sotto Zero tires.
Car is white, and I think the Turbo II's look the best on a white car, but just curious how the factory wheels hold up in the Winter. Doesn't make any sense to spend that kind of money, and have the wheels looks like crap after the winter season.
Advice appreciated

No they will be my summer / good weather set.
Does anyone have any experience driving in the coniditions I mentioned?

I bought a set of used RS Spyder wheels and had the centers painted black (with machined lip). Looks awesome and waaaaaay better than stock RS Spyder (don't like personally).
Scottozeros are great with that set up.

I've got oem 19" wheels with michelin snow's for winter and I drive 21" hre's with ps2 for summer - both excellent in my opinion. The smaller 19" wheels will be better in snow if you have a choice
I went with the complete Tirerack package of 19 inch wheels/tires/tpm sensors. All-in it was $2,526 with shipping, mounting and balancing. I got their recommended cheapo wheels ($205 and $221 for f and r) and they don't look bad at all.
I went with 19's because they didn't offer the Michelin PA3's in 20's, and I've heard these tires are definitely the ones to have if you want to minimize your dry handling tradeoffs. I can say definitely these are by far the best dry handling winter tires I've driven. Of course, nothing like the Pilot Sport summer tires, but I was shocked by how well they handled.
Turn-in and steering response is really pretty dang good. Braking is still superb. Noise is very low, and ride is excellent. There is certainly a lot more flex in the sidewalls, but it's not excessive. Nothing like the Sottozero's that I had on on my M5, and they were way better than the Blizzaks. The car is still a lot of fun to toss around, and while it's nowhere near as precise, it's honest and transmits a good amount of feedback. I haven't had a chance to check it out in the snow, but I can guarantee it will be miles ahead of my rwd M5. I'll report back when I get the chance to slide it around in some of the white stuff.

I am more just concerned about the condition of the wheels after the winter. Really want a Turbo II set, but afraid they will be thrashed after winter driving? Anyone drive with 20" Turbo II wheels and the Sotto Zero's in the winter?

Yes they will fit 2012 panamera. They are stock size for the car. No tires are mounted. Cost is $2500 including shipping.
I passed 3 winters with Turbo II's and Sotto Zero's in Boston. No problems at all. The wheels still look like new. My PTT is white, and agreed Turbo IIs are the best looking wheels on the car by far.
I used to live in the city though, it might be a better idea to get 19s for suburbs.

Just mounted a 20" winter package from Tirerack on my GTS. Phone pics attached below. I went with a Sport Edition Cup 5 wheel and N-rated Pirelli Sottozero's. It was around $2,800 total with TPMS. I could not find real pics of the Sport Edition wheels before ordering, but they ended up looking pretty good for winter wheels at that price. Wheels did not come with centercaps and my Turbo II caps don't match, so now waiting for another set of silver OEM centercaps to be delivered. Overall, happy with the purchase especially with the price - though no driving time yet.
