Preowned buying advice

Any suggestions or things i should look out for when buying preowned?

Im considering a CPO 2010 turbo from a dealer.

Should I ask any particular questions besides the obvious?

It has ceramic brakes and my understanding is that they should last a long time something like 60k miles before they need to be changed.

With rotors costing 4-5k I want to make sure I have time.

Car has about 30k on it.

Thanks.

Agree with the CPO. Mine has a nagging squeak at the front when going over speed bumps. Seems to be a known problem and doesn't affect the car at all. If it was my money, I'd live with it. But with CPO, I'm bringing it in.

The car is just a used car so give it a thorough used car checkout.

This includes a test ride then a test drive. 15 mile distance over a route that gives first the seller then you some time to drive the car in a number of different ways.

You have to spend time in the car first as a passenger then as a driver experiencing the car second in its natural state. Parked on a dealer lot or showroom or your driveway is not the car's natural state.

After the test ride/drive then subject the car to a thorough inspection. Assume nothing works until you confirm it does.

Sure the car's got a CPO warranty but you want to try to buy a car, pick a car, that at least doesn't have something that would cause you to call upon that warranty any time soon, and ideally never.

For PCCBs -- for any brakes -- you have to be careful. In some cases the brakes could be worn to nearly the point they need replacement. Some dealers bite the bullet and do the brakes under these circumstances.

Other dealers will let the car go out with nearly worn out brakes.

Bad enough if the brakes are cast iron. Real bad as in very expensive bad if the brakes are PCCBs.

So, get it in writing how much life is left on the brakes. Ask how this was arrived at? By measuring the thickness of all 4 rotors? Checking pad thickness? Or weighing the rotor/hub or just the rotor?

I really don't know for sure. Seems one hears it is by thickness. Other times the weight is used.

Am thinking about getting a used 2010 PTT as well. Would folks stay away from the 10 given it was the first model year, were there significant improvements made in 11 ?

Will be trading in a 08 911 TT which I absolutely love but I need 4 doors. Driving to the airport with my luggage on the passenger seat doesn't cut it when I'm bringing the wife along too...

I did the same as you. got rid of my 08 turbo cab for a 2010 panamera tt.. only thing I miss is no longer having a convertible. but the trunk space and real back seats make it the car to own in my opinion. I do have a sports car to enjoy though when I want pure sports car.

If buying from a Porsche dealer, make sure it's not just CPO, but also "Porsche Approved".
Big difference. If it's "Porsche Approved" those spendy PCCB's need to be at least 50% life.
If that 2010 is sold Porsche Approved the dealer will already have the measurements. Just ask.
It might sound silly, but squeaky Porsche brakes are usually caused by not using them enough. Just lay hard on them a few times.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I wanted to give feedback on squeaks when going over speed bumps. Brought the car in 3 times under warranty for this problem. They tried various things, but what eventually worked was replacing the struts. Had to order the part from Germany. It significantly decreased it. Not sure I hear it anymore, but they are going to replace bushings near the strut as well. They are ordering this from Germany as well, so I'll need to bring it back one more time.

Again, I would have lived with this if it were my money.

Oh, if you want to see what you can ask for to sweeten the deal, get new tires. Don't settle for whatever the minimum tread depth they normally sell preowned cars with
