Aligment Question

Gents - Had a quick question regarding your experience with alignment and "steering wheel" position. As with my prior Porsche's, my Panny GTS was delivered out of alignment. Car drifted quite noticeably to the right, and steering wheel was ****ed to the left. Anyway, dealer was very accommodating, and at no charge performed an alignment on the car. Car drive 100% better now.

My question is this....at times the steering wheel is completely straight, and at others, its now about 1/2 to 1" ****ed to the right...clearly not a ton of difference, but psychologically bothersome and not like ever was on my 911 or m3, etc. IN speaking with the dealer and the techs, they explained that given the huge size of the wheels on this car (20's), they are WAY more sensitive to the crown in the roads given their width. That's hwy the steering position varies.

Anyway, makes sense, and as long a I am not focusing on the wheel, the car drives straight and handles well.

Anyone else experiencing same?, or should I go back and just have them re-check steering position only?

Thanks

My alignment was fine from the start and the steering wheel has always been dead-center. I'm pretty sensitive to that.

I had an "incident" and needed a realignment. The steering wheel is still centered after it.

Thanks for the reply...I read somewhere that anytime within the initial 2,000 miles of the car, most all dealers will realign the car to spec under warranty...something about the break in period. Regardless, I'll take it to the dealer and just bust their chops till they get it perfect....after all, you spend $130K, you don't anything to bug ya

fact of the matter is you have to be happy with you car and you deserve to have it damn near perfect. it is an awesome car and it should come right and the dealer has the responsibility to make sure it does.

if you saw my cracked PCCB rotors that car came with that the dealer said "was normal" you would have a heart attack

Ha...spoken like a true NJ/NY'er (I am originally from White plains).

Anyway, just to be clear...the wheel is straight some of the time...its on roads that have some crown to them (may just be a Florida thing), where it will be noticeable off center , even though I am driving completely straight on the road. That is the annoying part, and they are trying to say its the road and not the steering wheel position.

I'm taking it in tomorrow to get the new rear spoiler motor (they agreed that mine was loud as heck) and have been cool thus far, so I suspect they will have the tech look at it an adjust / fix. Appreciate the feedback, as while I know I am finicky, I wanted to be sure I was not out of line (no pun intended) haha

That has been my normal experience on roads that would pull the car out of the lane if I let go of the steering wheel. I have to steer a bit off-center, steering the opposite direction that the road is trying to pull me.

If wheel is straight on roads w/o crown and only off-center with roads that have crown/angle then I agree it is the road conditions affecting the wheel alignment. If off-center when on flat roads that should be fixed.

When I exit the ramp onto the west side hwy, there is noticeable crowning where the wheel is off-center which corrects when road conditions improve.

Sounds the alignment is good if only on crowned roads..... G/L. Report back.
