Just getting to know my first PDK after 15 years of 911 manual tranny.
What's wierd is when you manual shift the Panamera (a P4S) after a stop, it automatically defaults to first gear. It seems wierd but it would almost be smoother starting off in 2nd, imo. Seems like I accelerate a bit and have to shift right away to 2nd anyway and it seems kind of jerky.
Anyone have any ideas/experience about this? Otherwise the transmission and the way it double clutches and raises the rpm's before a downshift is awesome.

In manual it starts in 1st, in auto it starts in 2nd.

I agree it would be nice if you could change the default via PCM, perhaps "default to 2nd but allow me to downshift at a standstill"...

I find myself " short shifting" first gear around 5k rpm's, to smooth out the rev curve. It's weird, but almost like they accidentally made 1st too "short"... Anyway, the motor so awesome, that even doing so, second just instantly hooks up, smoothly, and the car rockets ahead.

car really doesnt need such a short first gear at all around town.
it really is just for 0-60 times to get this thing going fast with launch control, otherwise I agree around town really never needed

Enjoy!

In Auto it starts in 2nd but you can downshift to 1st with the steering wheel buttons. Or, just set SportPlus and that sets it to 1st at a stop.
