Tire Pressure

Hey gents...starting to second guess myself a bit on "ideal" DD settings, so thought I would reach out to the masses for a refresher email. I have of course read the manual; several times, but we all know that a) there are various situation settings in the book, and b) Porsche sometimes dumbs these down.

So, as an ideal DD setting on the 20's, curious what cold pressures people are running front and rear (or if you measure yours hot, please post that as well).

I have thus far (3200) miles been running 38 front and rear "cold...." but, the handling not as crisp as I would like. Could also be the crap Pirelli tires, but I am not yet willing to toss them out with so few miles.

Thanks!

Was wondering the same myself as just picked up a '14 PGTS. I have the all season 20's and currently inflated from the dealer at 42 all around which is wrong according to the manual for 20" All Seasons as follows.

Standard pressure up to 150 mph; Full load 37/37 partial 36/36.
Comfort pressure up to 100 mph; Full load 31/31; partial 31/31.

Interesting that the dealer set the PCM TPMS to 'comfort' but yet filled the tires to 42. Wonder what kind of quality control they have at the dealership.

I played around yesterday, and found that 40 all around (cold), which equated to 44 all around (hot), made a HUGE difference I think these Pirelli's have a softer sidewall than the Michelin's I am used to on other cars...plus, as Tom as reminded me, it's oe heavy azzz car. So, at 44 hot all around, car was much better planted, all "squirminess" on turn in gone, etc

Tom, as usual, you are dead right here. Based on a post from last week, I changed my cold TP's to 41F/44R, which equate to approximately 44F/48R hot....man, the car is so much more planted, better turn-in, steering response, etc. Just changed the whole way the car drives...love it!

I know these OEM 20" tires have maximum tire pressure label of 50 psi hot, so I hope there is no danger of them blowing or anything. I have never before ran a car at these pressures (then again, I have also never before owned / driven a two-ton sports car...

The P zeros have a maximum of 50 PSI cold so you will be fine.

What about 19" Mich. Pilot Sport A/S recommendations. Mine came with 36 psi front and 42 psi rear. Tires are 255/45 f, 285/45 rear.
Thanks for the comments.

I'd look on your doorsill for the "full load" weight and try that that;s what the 41/44 represents on the 20"s on the GTS, and its awesome

The dealer put 44 all around when I bought my car (cold, but I've never seen them go above 45-46 even hot) and thats what I've been driving on the entire time. I haven't had any complaints so far, so I didn't play with it. Should I try reducing the pressure?

M-F I run mine at 36F/36R (cold) just to better handle the expansion joints on the freeway. Couple of times a day the warning goes off as you hit triple digits but it isn't sustained so no matter. On weekends if I'm going to go play in the hill country I'll jump to 42F/42R (cold).

I do see a fairly large variance in the TPMS readings, probably +/- 2psi across all 4 units. Hand held pressure gauge is more accurate (+/- 1/4 psi). The TPMS are good for realtime feedback but not as accurate as I would like.

My door sticker says: 37front, 43 rear. Any one know what the real world effects of pressure vs. handling is? Are there any graphs around that quantize the effects of pressure change and handling?

As mentioned earlier, mine (on the GTS) says 41F/44R fully loaded As my DD, just me in it, I have been using that, and the car handles phenomenally Tire wear also looks quite normal I say try and see if you like it

I just changed to mine 41/41. We'll see how the Panny rides.

The difference in the front tire pressure between models is due to the engine weight. V6 being the lightest and V8TT being the heaviest.
