Failed front air suspension strut - has it happened to you?

Hi,

The left front air suspension strut on my PTT appears to have sprung a leak, left parked it slowly collapses so that overnight that corner of the car is sitting on the suspension stop. My independent says they've "seen several of these (on Panamera) and also Bentley as it's the same supplier"... I was a bit surprised to be honest, the car only has 22,000 km on the clock.

Anyone else had this issue?

I had the same issue with the front right after the dealer disassembled it to replace the upper control arm. Ended up replacing both fronts and the pump before it was over. There is an issue with the pump housings cracking. Still leaks but even after 2 weeks without being driven it has sagged only about 1/2".

Well mine is going in today to have the left strut replaced (and left+right upper wishbones.. creaking bushes issue)... Then they're going to measure it up, leave it overnight to see if there is any additional sag, if so it'll be on to the reservoir tank and pump I guess...

If I could spec the Turbo or GTS without air springs, I would.

So by way of an update.. front upper wishbones replaced both sides (bushings had delaminated and were causing a creak over speed humps and hard braking), left front air spring replaced (but same shock), car no longer sags or drops parked overnight. Hopefully fully resolved.

Did the sound go away? Cost to replace the upper wishbone?

Yes, sound completely gone, done at an independent workshop here in Singapore for S$1,320 (US$1,000). When they did the alignment work the computer indicated some slight geometry shift under compression which is likely due to the lower bushes being soft (these will likely be the next to need replacing).

Phil612 - I used to live in Singapore. Your COE must have been extraordinary on a panny. In america my PTT new wasnt much more than a Honda jazz/fit in Singapore.

I just had to replace the right air strut on my 2011 PTT with 40K miles. I can't believe that those struts are not made to last longer.
Was quoted over 3,000 USD to do the one by my local Denver PC.
Anyone else had a similar experience?

How much of that is labor? Sounds crazy.

I'm not sure, as haven't received the breakdown yet. They claim it's a full day's work, so I assume it's more than half the cost.

when the air strut is leaking , better to replace with new one . because , the compressor will work over the time to supply the air when it's leaking .. i think no other way to fix it . and use the original from porsche .. don't try after market / rebuild will waste your time & money .

Not had the problem yet, but I typically use the comfort tire pressure specified in the manual. That might prolong the strut lifetime. When the time comes for replacement, I'll just replace rebuild the front end too.
