Question Testing the audio system

In the last couple days, I have noticed some screeches (not sure how to better describe it) from what I think is the very front right speaker in my burmeister.

It happens randomly during certain vocals in songs and sometimes when I'm talking on the phone through bluetooth. I'm not sure if its from inferior audio, or if something is wrong with the speaker. If it wasn't for the fact that I drive everyday, it isn't something that would be otherwise noticeable.

I can never duplicate it because its hard to pinpoint a fault in one speaker when the 15 other overwhelm it.

Is there any way to test the burmeister audio system to expose faults or bad speakers?

I'm sorry about your issues. It would be nice if the issues were there all the time. I would contact these guys directly. If any similar issues have ever occurred, they should know about it...

Thanks, I'll contact them to see what they say. Honestly I don't know if I'm just making it all up in my head, and the noise occurs from lack of audio quality rather than the speaker.

I just got the car, so obviously I'm paying more attention to the little things than they deserve!

Mine does this sometimes - upper right passnger dash speaker with the Burmester. It only happens for some songs at some points, and more importantly only with my iPod plugged into USB port. Interesting ly, the same song playing on my iPhone plugged into the USB or via Bluetooth doesn't do it. It never happens with any other input (CD/DVD, iPhone, FM, AM, XM).

Interesting. So this leads me to believe it might just be the audio and not the speaker... I have mostly used only a USB stick plugged into the USB. For phone calls I use bluetooth through my samsung S4. Those are the only times It happens to me.

I was able to find a song that it consistently happens with (part of the song isolates the front speakers)... But once again I'm not sure if its just the song, might have to try it on a different car. My buddy has an audi s4 with the Bang & Olufsen, so I'll see if his does it.

I would get it looked at by a dealer and ask for them to replace the speaker if a source cannot be identified. I had a roar in the front passenger door speaker upon opening the driver's door prior to turning the car on. This occurred intermittently. My dealer replaced the speaker but the problem continued. It was more of an annoyance than anything else. I have not had any issues with the '14 Panny Burmester.

Unfortunately the problem is I can't identify it. I'm not an audiophile so I don't have the ear or the technology to pinpoint the problem. Just that there might be a problem.

On the other hand, it seems like the dealership never says there is a problem with anything until you specifically prove it to them.

I emailed burmester and their reply was probably written by google translator and was extremely vague. They just said that they can't help or advice in any way and only porsche can.

OK, so dug a little deeper and figured out that its not the sound system its just I listen to crappy music haha (not bad bitrate quality, but just musically crappy ...).

After some research, I found that many experts recommend the song hotel california to test an audio system. So I downloaded a 320 bitrate mp3 of it and It lived up to their word. It has everything from high to low and works the speakers. Sounds beautiful in the bermester! None of the speakers had any trouble, whether I put it on full blast or just quite enough to hear.

I recommend you guys try this, to really hear how clear this sound system is.

Use surround sound or not?

For those of you with the Burmester do you prefer the surround sound setting on or off? Also, I've found bass and treble controls on mine but nothing more sophisticated. Are there other audio settings that I'm just not finding? Thanks.

I use the live concert setting and the sound conditioner option under burmester sound. I prefer the live concert sound over the surround.

I use the surround sound option. The live concert option seems to do really well with some songs, but overall I like the surround sound option. I usually stick my bass and treble at +3.

I leave sound conditioner on all the time. For radio, I leave it on surround. For aux, feeding in ALAC through an external DAC, I leave the sound settings off.

Tonyep-what equipment do u use for aux input? I am looking for a better source than my iPod which I think limits the burmeister sound. I have found that the bass can be a bit boomy and set the bass at -2, treble at +3

You could also have an audio specialist can test the system. They could equalize the sound and confirm if any of the speakers are overloaded.

I'm using the Cypher Labs AlgoRythm Solo -R feeding in ALAC from the stock music app or FLAC using the FLAC Player on iOS.
