Panamera, does it drive like a 911?
Hey everyone, I've had my eyes set on a 996tt/997, but the more I look at it, the 996/7 has to be a 3rd vehicle due to the wife and kid, and my need to have a decent size trunk/utility/frequent Costco trips.
So now I'm thinking about the Panamera. Can the Panamera serve as a DD? The hatch design looks practical, can it haul a 50" TV? And more importantly, does it drive like a 911? Thanks!

Back seats fold so should be no problem for tv.
The Panny is much larger, longer & heavier than the 911, but having test drove the 991 before, the Panny (mine's a 4S) is remarkable for its size - you could say it's pretty much a 4 door 911.
Another option will be the Cayenne. Best handling SUV ever. I test drove the turbo with sportplus on and dayammmm IT"S AWESOME!!!

It will haul the TV. It won't drive like a 911 but it is ideal for daily driving and fun to drive .

I've have mine a couple of months and use it as a DD. So far, it works well in that capacity. As far as being equivalent to the 911, I would say "close but no cigar" The handling is sweet and I am enjoying it immensely, but it doesn't track as well. Perhaps other options might make up the difference. Comments from others?

yes it hauls things...
bottom line it is as good as it gets for a compromise, it has Porsche performance and sedan seating with a hatch back to boot
to me if only one vehicle the perfect daily driver
only thing I cant do with it is tow....so then you go Cayenne

If you drive it back to back with a 911 well then I would no way though my 911 is so altered that the Porsche dealers calls it a kit car now. I really like my 4S (though it is loaded with options)and these cars are about as close as you can get to sports car with room.

Get them both...lol Tom Kerr has the right Idear...! lol
I am tossing these same set of circumstances around. One week I'm in the 911 forum moving in that direction and now I'm on the Panny' Board and thinking about a 2014 Panamera GTS!
I think if you get the GTS it would be very close to the 911, and then in a few years after the Panny is paid for get the 911. At least that is my current plan.
I think that if You buy a car from Porsche, they should let you purchase the second car at half price!
Either car will be a compromise in our current situation, it's just which compromise will it be for you...?

I went from an 07 Cayman S to a 10 Panamera 4S. I wanted something that was more comfortable for my commute but still fun. The Panny is a compromise. I miss the Cayman. If you want a sports car feel, I'd get the GTS. I kind of wish I had gone with the GTS. I've only had the Panny for 8 months, but I'm considering going back to a two car solution, or picking up another Cayman or a 911 for a fun car.

I've had 3 911's, and can say that the panamera handles and feels very similar. The 911 feels lighter and smaller as u would expect, but for regular daily driving, I feel there is little difference. I use mine as a daily driver and love it. I now drive the panamera instead of the 911 because I now have 2 young kids...who said this wasn't a good family car?

I have had to take my kids to school much more lately (3 of them). Each time I lean into the back and strap the 2 year old in the 5 point belt, I am reminded why I had to let my 997.2 go. The panny is no 911, but it is darned close, despite being as big as it it. I was at the dealership a couple of months back and tested a new C2, preferred by P4S hands down. The C2S with PDK sports chrono and sports exhaust gave me second thoughts....until I settled back into my expresso leather spacious cabin, put on sport and put on the sport exhaust and forgot the 911s. For the best of both worlds, panny. For a true compact sports car experience, you'll have to stick with a 911
