New Panamera?

I'm starting to make some changes in the collection and I'm leaning toward going to more along the lines of a Rapide or Panamera as opposed to the 2008 997.1 I have. I've already sold my '89 Mondial.
I saw a '14 4S along with a '10 Rapide. The Aston looked beautiful, as was the exhaust note, but I definitely got the sense that it was much more "breakable" that the Porsche. So I came to the conclusion the the very nicely optioned 4S was the better car for me.
Has anyone else here moved from a 911 to a Panamera?
Any regrets?

Get a GTS and I don't think you'll miss the 911 at all!

Cheers,

There's a lengthy thread on Rennlist about a guy's experience moving from a 911 to a Panamera 4S, with some comments by others who have moved.

Porsche Panamera was named "One with fewest problems" car for 2 years in a row by JD power. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/19/au...year.html?_r=1
I rest my case.

I would take Panamera over Rapide anytime. The Aston is very outdated in terms of features, its infotain system is many generations behind. And the Rapide is the only 4-door luxury car that you cannot even get a sunroof.

Thanks for the feedback. I test drove a '14 4S. Definitely impressed. My days of thinking about taking a car to the track are over and with a Panamera, I don't have to leave the fun car at home if more than two of us want to go out.

My wife even liked the sound of the twin turbo shifting - but I'm going to have to at least try the GTS to be sure.

I got the feeling there was a deal that could be made on the 4S. Is a discount on the GTS as likely to be had?

You can deals on both cars. It really shouldn't be hard.

Goodluck in your decision. You can't go wrong either way!

Drove a '13 GTS and a few '14 4S's. I really like the 4S better. I want the premium package plus and I'd like the sport package, but would be satisfied with the sport chrono. Saw a nice one in GT Silver...

I was faced with the same choice and chose the 2014 Panamera S. The Gen II Panamera is awesome! Mine has the premium plus package, sport chrono and sport exhaust, plus the extended range fuel tank! The only thing that is not as good as the 2013 GTS is the exhaust sound in sport mode IMHO! The bottom line is you can't go wrong with either choice! Cheers Jim

Looks like I'm moving from a 991S to a 2015 GTS later in the year. To me it's a slight step up, going to AWD and a more exclusive car. The 0-60 and 1\4 mile Times are about the same and the GTS brakes are awesome!

The sport chrono seems to be a must-have on the Panamera. I've driven one car with it and I loved the car. I've driven 3 cars without it, and they seemed to be missing just a little magic, but it could have been my imagination. My 997 does not have it, and I still love the car. Does anyone not have the sport chrono? Thoughts?

I agree, I nearly bought a 2012 panamera s that didn't have it, and comparing that to the GTS is just a big difference. With a big car like the panamera it's nice to have sport plus and launch control.

I went from a 08 997S to a Panamera Turbo and have no regrets. Its not a 911, never will be, but its still Porsche and an engineering marvel which I really enjoy. The large boot has turned out to be one of my favourite things. Used to leave the 911 at home for trips to Home Depot...not anymore.

I sold the 997 quickly but took my time to find the PTT with all the options I wanted and refused to compromise. Sport Chrono is must have IMHO, sport and sport plus modes are great to have. PDCC, Berm stereo and Sport Exhaust are great options which I am glad I held out to find. Buying certified from dealer is a bonus and provides some piece of mind.

There is still a 911 Turbo or GT3 in my future...just not right now.
