AC Fan Noise - Air Flow Question
AC Fan Noise - Air Flow Question
I just took possession of my second Panamera, a 2013 PTT two weeks ago. I love everything about it, except one thing -- when I engage the fan at the lowest speed the sound is very loud, much more like the sound of the fourth or fifth 'notch' on my previous Panamera. It is also much louder than any of the 25 cars I've owned. I haven't been to the dealer yet. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this issue? I am concerned that the dealer will say it is normal, yet it is obvious, when compared to other Panameras, that it is super loud.
Unlike cars of the past, it appears there is no way to just let air flow through into the car without engaging the fan? I prefer air flow, but the loud fan is very annoying. I have tried the various settings listed in the manual (soft, normal, etc), but nothing changes the high decibel noise.
Would appreciate any help, thank you.

Same here, it seems much louder than any of the cars I've owned before. When you compare the airflow with the noise levels it definitely doesn't seem right as the airflow is not that strong but yet you can still hear the fan even on the lowest setting. Usually with most cars you don't hear the fan in the first or second fan setting.
But here is what I noticed, if you set your AC to Auto mode, somehow when it's on 1st or even 2nd setting fan noise is definitely not as loud as it is when you set it to the same fan speed yourself without auto.
In my case I also seem to have an issues with some hose that supplies freon to the system (it is restricting amount of refrigerant), so my car always stays on fan 3-4 because air is not cold enough to cool down interior. Dealer ordered the part but for some reason its already taking more than a week for them to get it.
So far comparing AC to my wifes C class, PTT ac even with 4 zone option is an embarrassing system. Louder, not as cold and overall not comfortable.

MTRX, is that a warranty fix?
Yes loud on 1 setting with barley any air going to the cabin. My old lexus kills the panny in the air in cabin dept. Hell even my Chevy z71 in setting 1 with air recirculation is cold as hell.

But do try keeping it on Auto. I know those cars are mainly tested and designed to have their AC operate on Auto and most people use them on auto. I do like to set the lowest temp and keep it on manual with lowest fan setting, mainly because I don't like high fan speeds when just starting the car and Auto is trying to quickly cool down the car, but it seems like with this car that is the only way to keep the fan noise down.
Also play around with Fan Speed setting in your cluster, just keep in mind that those settings only effect fan speeds when AC is on Auto mode.
Let me know what your outcome.

Also, any idea where that motor is and what they need to remove in order to replace it?
Noise is usually hight when you have front (face) and windshield on at the same time. Having windshield fan on help to keep the dashboard is the main element in the car that gets the most sun and heats up the most and radiates heat inside of your car.
face only is loud in my car, i tried the windshield on only for 5 mins or so before I switched it to face only. where you can hear the air changing from windshield vent to face, didn't work the first time, but it worked the second time today.
Does it change if you select mono? Mine is loud when the different sides are at diferent temps/speeds. Set it to mono and it quiets
Also, how about the settings for ac in the pcm? Are they set to strong/normal/soft?

Mine is always in "mono" mode.
Can you guys please measure your temperature that is coming our of your center vents?
Just use any thermometer (I used the one you use for grilling, it put it inside the vent) and set your temp to 60 and fan speed 2-3 and please let me know what you get. I would really appreciate this!
Right now it seems like my dealer is telling me that my AC functions normally, but I know 100% it is not normal as air is coolish, but not cold. The coldest I can get is 48 where other cars I've tested (non Panamera) were around 40. That 8 degrees difference makes that air cold and not coolish.

Yes, it's all on including "center vent cooler". Any idea what is "vent panel" for?
