More or less.

This guidance comes from years far greater than yours.

$0.02
I was just asking how much the warranty costs just to have an idea on how much I'm expected to pay lol.

I have a 2010 4S, and it has had its share of issues, most of them before I owned it. I tend to like to do things certain things myself and recently did some work that would have cost at least $1500 dollars at the dealer. Just keep in mind that when you buy a car that costs over 100K new (regardless of what you pay for it) it usually costs more to fix when things go wrong. Good luck.
Thanks a lot for the advice & the insight! I appreciate that. But There's a local Volvo dealership that has a panamera that I planned on looking at (2010 with low miles)... How can buying specifically from the Porsche dealership benefit me more than buying from this local Volvo dealership, if the car is CPO & if I get the extended warranty?

Thanks again.

I didn't think you could buy a CPO car from anywhere other than a Porsche dealer. I could be wrong. Here's an excerpt from Porsche's online brochure for CPO program.

Where can I buy Porsche

Pre-Owned Vehicles?

Porsche Approved Certified
Pre-Owned Vehicles are available
from participating authorized
Porsche dealers in the U.S.

Buying the car from a dealer who is not an authorized Porsche dealer will void the CPO (but not the original). CPO can only be provided by a pcar dealer or transferred in a private sale.

Fidelity Platinum is your best bet for an extended warranty. My dealer told me Easycare won't do Panameras anymore.

A 2010 car will be out of warranty and what others are telling you is correct, CPO can only come from a Porsche dealer. These cars are tricky (I have found things my dealer service center missed and fixed them myself), and even someone like me (who has owned 40 Porsche's) who has been taking cars apart for over 40 years can be baffled by all the systems (and faults these things throw) in these cars. I doubt a Volvo dealer knows enough to even do a complete checkup on these cars, nor could they pull its service records. Case in point I just changed the plugs and guess what had a valve gasket leak on the passenger side leaking oil onto the coil. Gasket cost $31.00 but would have been 5-7 hundred in labor if the dealer had done it. Even though my car has a CPO warranty I just did it. I would strongly advise you to wait till a car comes along that can be bought at a Porsche dealer (if you plan to be a Porsche owner from now on it is good to establish a relationship with a dealer) and has a CPO warranty. Most of us are quite a bit older than you (in my case a lot older) and have experienced both the good and the bad when it comes to owning expensive cars, I'd listen to the advise given.

Mr. NYJets,

First of all, I am a die hard dolphins fan, so we are already starting off on the wrong foot...just kidding.

As many of the other forum members mentioned, these cars are very expensive to fix...bottom line. It is highly advised that you buy one from a porsche dealer with a CPO warranty that will cover you in the event it has some kind of issue. Now keep in mind, the CPO, extends the original factory in service date by 2 years. Some 2010's were sold in 2009 and early 2010 which would only give you few more months of warranty left. Also the CPO warranty, although quite inclusive, has some things it does not cover that the original factory bumper to bumper did. You would need to clarify this with your dealer.

Just to let you know..a CPO car that is sold by a factory dealer must go through a very thorough inspection and must meet very strict standards to even pass to be a CPO car. SO.. these tend to be decent cars to even make this cut. Typically, it could cost the dealer several thousand dollars to bring a car up to CPO standards, and then they have to pay Porsche an additional fee to purchase the extended warranty. This is at least $2000 and much more on some.

Just to let you know.... my CPO warranty on my 2012 Panamera turbo S was an additional $2500, of which $500 goes to the salesman.

Even though these CPO cars cost more, they are MUCH better cars, and give you tremendous peace of mind for a long while.

Good luck my friend, and go dolphins!
