Panny S E-Hybrid range experiment

As you might have read from my earlier posts, I was able to get >1000 miles between gas fills several times. It is not hard to get close to the magical 1000 miles and my trips mostly are a mix of a few long trips, lots of short ones and a few medium (50 or so miles round trip). I always wondered what if I never charge the vehicle and what range I would get.

I did not alter my driving habits or the routes I take to work etc and the maximum I got was 445 miles when the reserve capacity light switched on. This equates to roughly 25 miles to a gallon. With the additional weight of the batteries and the constant regenerative braking etc charging the battery pack, I was able to drive a bit on electric alone but obviously not that much.

I find it interesting the range delta on driving on a full charge every day versus driving with the battery pack completely depleted.

In which mode were you operating?

My experiences do not correlate with your ~25mpg. At a previous gig with a one way drive of 35 miles, I was zeroing out the battery on the way in, and using the unnamed hybrid mode on the way home and earned mid 30's consistently.

I did a Sport mode drive home from my current workplace the other night, after the public charger failed to send any juice to the car. I believe my indicated mpg was 32.X. IIRC.

I do drive the car very lightly, unless I am in Sport mode. My dealer said the brake pads looked like "new." LOL

Ace,

Did not touch any modes whatsoever(un-named mode?). This is over the course of 3 weeks or so and the battery would charge only slightly while driving hard. Occasional sport mode on windy roads. I did not charge the battery at all once parked in the garage for 3 weeks so it was mixed driving, stop and go, open roads etc.. I would get 30 mpg or so per the computer occasionally but overall the consumption averaged out to 25mpg.

I think by un-named mode he means just the Hybrid mode...since there is no actual button that says that (just unselected ePower button or depleted battery).
