Priced out a new Panny 4S-Holy cow
So I was curious about a new 4S with the 2.9 liter twin turbo (440 hp) so I priced one out. They already have a Sport design package available for it (about $5700), rear axle steering, PDCC, etc.
I rolled mine up a couple different ways and it was still north of $135k, actually on the north side of $140k.
And to this I ask: this engine is really an Audi engine (the V8 was developed by Porsche) and I wonder if I'd have buyers remorse about $140k for a car with an Audi engine? Not to say the engine is poor but it loses some of that exclusive feel.
For $140k I'm not sure it's worth it.
However, what I noticed is that the curb weight of this car is 120 lbs less than the previous GTS, and about 220 lb less than the older PTT. With rear axle steering and PDCC on this car, I bet it will be a hoot to drive, with all that torque available over a very wide band.

I read somewhere that the engine is NOT the Audi V6, but a Porsche engine derived from the V8 by lopping off two cylinders. It's supposed to have the turbochargers and cat. converters in the cylinder V, like the V8. Could someone confirm or debunk with facts?
I thought the v8 was a variant of an Audi design. The turbo location is the same as Audi. Why start from scratch but it does make one wonder why it's more expensive. I now have to pay $150k for a v8. Maybe it's the diesel-gate tax?
I think this car will be like buying a Turbo and take a beatingg the second you drive it off the lot. Way to expensive for what you get.
Buy one used 6months after launch and you will save a bunch of $$

For your $40,000 in options, you must have thrown in the embossed headrest crests, colored seat belts, deviated stitching, and leather on the a/c vents...all the real important stuff.

It does not bother me a bit

Ha ha ha - I went for leather interior, PDCC, sport exhaust, rear axle steering, Bose, Sport Design package, aluminum trim, ...it adds up fast.
Car looks great on the configurator in GT silver with black 21" wheels. But...
Man, that's pricey. I may just sit around and wait to see how this all develops for a year or two.
Which makes me wonder what the new GTS will be.

Exactly. I could never justify the 163+K price for my PTT new. Patience is key for a great deal.
Engine wise, if you're getting an Audi one anyway, you're better off with the 4.0T in the S6/S7 than what's in the new 4S. Hopefully they have a GTS coming soon with a detuned Turbo engine (vs. tuned 4S engine).
I'm betting, unfortunately, that the GTS will be a tuned up version of the 2.9 liter V6. Which will probably make the older 970 version of the GTS even more desirable.
If they go with the 4.0 NA V-8 with a different intake, that would be pretty sweet.

If it ends up that way I forsee the 970 V8 cars holding their value - if not increasing in value in the future.
IMO they are all too new for this to happen any time soon. Just went thru this with my 997.2.... again way too new. 25 years from now, maybe a chance but I wouldn t bet on it.
