Saw a video on Youtube from 2014 where Matt Farrah from "The smoking tire" test drives the 2014 PTT ("2014 Porsche Panamera Turbo: Supercar and Daily Driver in One").
At 6.55 in the video he then talks about the exhaust sound and the crackle and pops and you here it during overrun.

Is this something that Porsche only maps in to the cars sold with the PSE?
If so, do anyone know if its possible to get that tune to a car that where not equipped with a PSE?

I guess it came with the 970.2.

I dont have any crackle and pops at all and I have an 2.75" aftermarket turbo back exhaust.
I have not heard the pops on any aftermarket exhaust Panny videos either.

 

The tune is the same with or without PSE...
my guess is it s just the exhaust flow on the PSE exhaust.

 

I have a 2014 PTT with PSE (stock) and theres tons of crackles and pops on downshifts when in sport/sport+ mode, actually gets to be a bit much sometimes.

Now if someone with a +2013 PTT or PTTS without PSE could state if they have the crackle and pops?

I still have a hard time seeing that it would be only the PSE that makes the sound and nothing in the ECU map, but I can of course be wrong.

 

I don't think the tune has anything to do with the "crackle and pop" sound. I think it has more to do with the exhaust system. I have a gts and it has similar exhaust note also. I know on insanegarge they talk about removing a vacuum line around the tail pipe to create a louder exhaust. Might want to check it out. I think if you remove your resonator you will get all the gargle sound you want.

downpipe, resonator and muffler will all play a part. Less restrictive = more "crackle and pops"

 

Indeed. My 2011 with 200-cell cats and TechArt cat-back does crackle but it's VERY subtle and quiet. The windows will have to be down and it takes a specific RPM at lower speeds to hear it when manually shifting.

If I ever get a bite on the TechArt I'll move to a louder system and I'm positive the crackle volume will increase.
