Range of a 17 or 18 panamera hybrid

I'm interested in the range of a '18 or '17 Panamera Hybrid on a full tank of gas driving b/t 75mph/80 mph from point to point. I'm not the least interested in MPGE b/s, just miles travled on a full tank of gas on a single trip on interstate hwys.

I previously owned a '14 Panamera E-Hybrid and I remember going from Ft Worth, Tx to Van Horn, Tx on my way to Ca. Distance was 480 miles with little to spare. I've no idea what the '18 is capable on a full tank.

Also......on my '14 E-Hybrid, I could never get more than 13 miles on the batt alone. Is the '18 better or not. The EPA figures suggest the answer is NO.

You should have been able to get 16 or 17 miles out of your '14 PSeH battery.

Do you drive with a heavy foot on the skinny pedal?
Do you modify your driving habits to those which are suited to a hybrid?

Your 480 mile range on a 21 gallon tank suggest low to mid 20s mpg. That's not typical.

A plug in hybrid battery is never going to improve one's MPG significantly on a long, one way trip. Especially on a highway.

I'm surprised by your low mileage. On my '16 S e-hybrid, I get 14-16 miles on a charge during warm months, 11-13 miles during cold months. As far as tank capacity using the combustion engine, I average 31 miles/gallon during long road trips. I am constantly amazed by the mileage I get with such a heavy car.

I think the worst use case for a plug-in Panamera would be long distance, high speed driving over flat land.

You'd be toting around a battery, electrical motors and regen hardware and it would give yield basically zero benefit. After the initial charge was depleted, of course.

If the battery ever delivers <12 miles from a full charge, it's probably time to visit the dealer for a diagnostic. Even in cold weather.

This car is capable of 50++ mpg on long daily commutes if the driver is willing to work for it.

Do you drive with a heavy foot on the skinny pedal?...............No. I drove on a eary Sunday morning and at 40 mph steady. I did this several times on different Sunday mornings, Always the same give or take a mph.

it's probably time to visit the dealer for a diagnostic...........Yes/No. Traded it ('13 SE Hybrid) for a '17 Jag XJL Nov 30, 2017. I was on my way to AutoBahn Porsche to order a '18 Panamera Hybrid but stopped at Autobahn Jag and decided to just buy the Jag.

I'm in the mkt for another Panamera and it looks like it'll be a Panamera 4S instead of the Hybrid 'cause I can't determine what the milage should be in mpg on a full tank of gas. It looks like the '18 Hybrid won't get me as far as the '17 did. The 4S should get me from Ft Worth to El Paso (600 miles) without stopping for gas.

Heck, I can't even determine what the milage would be on a Hybrid using just the battery. The EPA site says 16 miles........................which does not relect what I read on some auto mags that say 30-31 on elec alone.

EPA figures: https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find...n=sbs&id=40225

You'd be toting around a battery, electrical motors and regen hardware and it would give yield basically zero benefit............Yes, I more or less figured that on the '14 I had, but also counted on some increase in mpg since the car cuts the engine on downhill portions for some gain. I've a CL550 that'll get me as far as the '14 Hybrid did, and it's a known gas guzzler.

A plug in hybrid battery is never going to improve one's MPG significantly on a long, one way trip. Especially on a highway.......Yeah, I've been having my head up my dark spot thinking it would, evidently.

Do you modify your driving habits to those which are suited to a hybrid?........No, not really. About a mile from my house is I-20 and I set the cruise on 75 mph for the next approx 15 miles then set it on 80mph siince the posted limit is 75 mph at that point and leave it there till I get to Van Horn, Texas. Now if I put the cruise at say 75mph all the way, then I'd expect to get another 20-30 miles. Not worth it imho.

Tesla 100D looks like a option a little bit more with more charging stations along the I-10, I-20 and I-40 since it has a 335 mile range, but I really, really can't see myself sitting on the edge of the hwy watching a car recharge for 45 minutes plus, when I could be making time in a Panamera or any other car. Heck even a Fiat 500 would be better. I'll stop rambling now.

Ignoring all other specs and tech... the '14 PSeH has a 9.4 kWh battery and the '18 version has a 14.1kWh battery.

That's ~50% more capacity. So, for me and how I drive when trying to max mpg, I would expect no worse than 20-24 miles on the battery. If there have been tangible improvements in the platform, then perhaps there's 25-30 miles of range.

We just added a 3 year Fidelity warranty on our PSeH with the plan of riding out this BRUTAL depreciation curve for two more years and then moving into the Taycan in its second model year.

I just did a 7600-mile cross-country USA road trip in my 2018 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. I would get maybe close to 25 mpg in my V6 (ICE-only) 2015 Panamera 4.
But in my 2018 E-Hybrid, I got pretty close to 30 mpg over 7600 miles, driving pretty much about 10 mph over speed limit most of the time on interstates in adaptive cruise control, with no plugging in. At home, I plug in every night in my garage and get 20-25 miles of all-electric range in my local commuting, and I typically will go 800-1000 miles at home without filling up on gas (with the occasional spirited driving, and I fill up when I have 1/4 to 1/3 tank left, so I could potentially go quite a bit longer if I wanted to let the tank get closer to empty). Overall range on long road trips with my 21-gallon tank is thus over 600 miles with no plugging in. In just under 13k miles since I bought the car, with about 2/3 of that on long road trips and 1/3 in local commuting, I'm averaging close to 38 mpg according to my car computer.

Since I last filled up two weeks ago (and I drive the car daily), I've driven 440 miles and gotten 48.1 mpg, according to the car computer, average speed 27 mph over that span in local driving. The gas tank is still 55% full.

COMETGUY and ACEten..............Sounds reasonable, the approx 25 miles on batt in the city. The close to 30 on the hwy (with the 21 gal tank) sounds reasonable too, doing the speed limit plus some more.

I feel better about buying another but the 18 and newer one. I was tending towards a Panamera 4 or the 4S because ?????? couldn't stand the thought of buying one that was worse than the one I traded in. There's probably one in my future after the first of the year (MRD time).

Thanks for all the replys from above. No Tesla for me for sure. Ain't a sitting along the side of the road charging a car for hours when I could be making time. Hybrids are the only way to go imho.

Saw a pure electric Jaguar I-Pace sitting in front of AutoBahn Jaguar this Sunday. Makes sense if you don't travel much and just putter around the metroplex going to work (eeeek!! work!!).

On the 14 E-Hybrid I'd plug in at home everytime I got out of the car. The plug was handy next to where I drove up and parked. I still have one of the two charging stations left over from owning the '14.

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=40225 Does anbody have an educated guess as to why the EPA on the site attached, shows the range for just electricity as only 16 miles?????

That said I accept the real life range stated in the posts above.
