Following up on this thread. Finally got around to doing the LED interior light conversion and wanted to share my thoughts.

I used the same JDMastar LED bulbs and they worked perfectly. Nice crisp white light but not too overpowering. They fade out just like the stock incandescent bulbs that I replaced so no worries with an abrupt light cut off. I was initially worried that I wouldn’t like the white LED light compared to the warm hues of the stock bulbs. I actually prefer the white light and the car feels more “modern” like my wife’s new Volvo XC90.

If you do all the lights you will need 15 bulbs (2 packs of 10). The bulbs locations are:

* rear hatch x2 (sides of the hatch compartment)
* rear hatch lid x2
* rear door puddle (welcome) lights x2
* rear reading lights x2
* front door puddle (welcome) lights x2
* front footwell x2
* glove compartment box x1
* dome light x2

The dome light scared me the most (based on my forum post reading) and is the reason why I took so long to get around to doing this mod. In the end I figured out a way to do the dome light WITHOUT having to drop the entire unit! You MUST use a thin and narrow trim removal tool. I liked the white one in the pic below but I had a few on hand.

1. Remove the dome light trim. Start at the side closest to the windshield and work carefully and slowly towards you using the trim removal tool to gently pry the clips free. You don't want any of these clips to break.

2. CAREFULLY remove the white plastic trim attached to the dome light. Look carefully at my pic for the location of the fasteners. Start closest to you using the trim tool. Work slowly and carefully. There are 4 clips along the "inner" side that you need to release. The 2 closest to you come out easy. The ones closer to the windshield are more difficult. Slide your trim tool as close the the point of fixation as possible before levering down. It took a fair amount of force for these to remove. Once this trim piece comes out you have direct front-side access the bulbs without needing to remove the whole dome light to get the bulbs from behind!

3. Pop our the incandescent bulbs and replace with LED. Assembly is the reverse but work slowly and use your trim tool to gently pry the clips (especially for the white trim piece) back into place (don't just try to push and force them back).

Here's are pics of the incandescent bulb vs.the LED when illuminated:

Overall, I took my time to do this mod. The dome light was ALOT less scary than I had imaged and you do NOT need to drop the whole dome to get to the bulbs. Hope this helps others!

Great suggestions vkb123! Wish I had your method before I mangled one of those clips when I changed out my bulbs to LED. Hope it helps others.

Another follow-up. License plate bulbs between 970.1 and 970.2 are different. People have posted about upgrading 970.1 license plate bulbs from incandescent to 36mm LED festoon. My license plate bulbs are an LED unit so nothing to upgrade. Part number is 1K8943021C. Glad I checked before ordering bulbs!

Here are pics from my 2014 4S.

Still trying to figure out how to get more reversing light…thinking that supplemental LED bulbs from Oznium are the way to go as posted by @970gts .
