GTS LED conversion

Hi,

thanks to all the inspiration you guys provide I have completed a LED conversion on my 2012 GTS. Amazon.com and a handfull dollars later it looks good.
Changed lights in the front foot compartment (2), glovebox (1), domelights (2), backseat reading lights (2), trunk lights (2), puddle lights (4) and rear license plate lights (2). The lights in the outside mirrors are already led (I believe) so they are ok.
But this got me going and I found that the curve lights are yellow-ish. I removed the front lights and the curve lights are easy to get to but changing the bulbs out will require some work. I have no idea what sort of lamp it is and thus I wonder if anyone has attempted a change of these to LED? What bulb is it?
Also I looked at the lights in the make-up mirrors in the "sun-screens" (don't know the correct term for these in English). They are very yellow (probably good for doing make-up but that's not my intent ....
I tried to see how to get the mirror/light housing out but seems impossible.

Has anyone tried any of these changes?
Best regards,
Martin

Any pics/link/info of the led bulbs used? I only ask cause some "kits" have different style bulbs for certain areas (but labeled as a Panamera kit), and so far you and another person used what I assume are the same (T10 style) bulbs for nearly the entire interior. I had some Morimoto XB LED T10's (5500k) left over from my other car, so I swapped the front dome lights and now I "have to" do the rest of the interior because it's a major difference.

Moving on, you refer to the "curve lights," which I think are the static cornering lights, and if correct, according to the Porsche Owner's Manual website is an H7 bulb. After some digging a few days ago actually, I found a 6SO member did a swap using 6-6500k and wished he got 5k instead (also some have reported a corner light warning regardless of canbus compatibility... Seems it's a hit or miss). So if you're going to swap the static corner lights to match the HID projector go with 5k color temp and be aware you might get a warning; may want to buy several different kits to try them return whatever doesn't work.

Elshiz,

Thanks for very valuable input. Obviously I need to work on my English when it comes to car related terms. Corner lights it should be of course. Not static but the ones moving with wheel angle.
The thought of a warning message is actually a show stopper to me. I wouldn't stand that feeling of something being incomplete every time I use the car.

I used these LED's for rear licence plate:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AHVND4Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AHVND4Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For all interior (excl. makeup mirrors in the sun visers ......) including puddles lights I have been using these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0186P1MUW/ref=pe_2640190_232748420_pd_te_o_mr_ti/146-5680738-7858769?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0186P1MUW&pd_rd_r=07TQY9TYEQJ3M2DFM7EN&pd_rd_w=cclyq&pd_rd_wg=5J6Qb https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0186P1MUW/ref=pe_2640190_232748420_pd_te_o_mr_ti/146-5680738-7858769?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0186P1MUW&pd_rd_r=07TQY9TYEQJ3M2DFM7EN&pd_rd_w=cclyq&pd_rd_wg=5J6Qb

I need to think about going after the corner lights. Might not be worth the hassle.

Thanks again, amazing how much information and knowhow there is among people at this forum.

Best, Martin

Oh gotcha, I can see how the error/warning would dissuade some from swapping any lights out. Thanks for the links, appreciate it.

I used the same lights for my interior, they are great, nice bright white light.

Didn't do any of the others.

that one is a major pain in the "" I ended up mutilating one of the 4 metal clips and could only pulled it down a little bit - just enough to get in and change the bulbs

did a decent job showing the process. It's advised you get a plastic trim panel remover, and a towel to place between the tool and roof. You need to remove the small perimeter trim piece prior to dropping the lighting unit down.

There will be significant resistance and you'll feel like it's going to break, but start from the front of the unit and work towards the windshield. I also sort of bent one of the metal clips, but was able to bend it back to shape, plus I had to drop the unit from the roof almost completely. The light socket pieces were just too tight for me to remove without using pliers, but once the unit was down low enough, I had no issues swapping the two out.

Nah, driver's side clip closest to the rear view mirror. Bent that little dude all up, but again nothing I couldn't fix with my needle nose.

What would you do differently to avoid mangling the clips

Not sure. I couldn't see the clip at all and it didn't seem like I could get my trim tool in there to apply appropriate pressure on it. Oddly enough though, the right side popped right out with no issues, so maybe if you can ensure both are popped at the same time? I think having the right side lower than the left caused uneven pressure on the clip making it more difficult to remove.

Agreed with what has been said. Same experience with the metal clips getting stuck and bend the wrong direction rather than flex or "compress" inwards. Believe the clips are too short and that they get stuck on the liner or something causing them to bend. With some fiddling it work.
I found a video on Youtube (The cayennes has exactly the same dome light):
This shows a bit better where the clips are so that at least you can try to press in the right spot which may help a bit.
