LED License plate issue

Hey gang,

Just upgraded the license plate bulbs with canbus LEDs but it's throwing a warning on the dash. Do I need a relay or something?

Mine did the same thing several times so I “played dumb” and took it to Porsche and they gave me some speech on how Porsche doesn’t let you do it and the stock ones are the only ones you should have

I’ve heard people spending a ton on them on suncoast website

Not sure what the answer is

if you really want LEDs they sell canbus versions of the bulbs - you get the nice bright LED lights, but lose the power reduction savings.

I had some LED bulbs left over from one of my Audi projects and installed the and they work perfectly - great light and no issues. I think the brand has a "Z" in it.

Thanks all - perhaps it's just the brand then? These are Canbus LEDs I specifically got Canbus ones to not have the code issue... but perhaps its the wrong kind?

Looks way nicer though!

Just dropped my car off at Porsche for the recall and they said that no matter what LED bulbs go in there, Canbus or not, the warning light will always come on as it isn't a regular bulb. Is this accurate? Doesn't seem like that makes sense to me - there has to be an LED bulb out there that doesn't generate a warning light on the dash?

I installed Ziza LED bulbs - they work great and they don't generate any warning on the dash. Can't seem to upload a pic...

That's straight up BS, canbus can't tell the difference between a LED and incandescent when they are both pulling the same current.
Good chance that the bulbs you got aren't pulling enough current, hence the error.

That's what I thought - it's just an electrical system hence it not making any sense. Looks like I will end up getting those Zazi ones. Any pics of them working?

Changing to LED bulbs, you must ensure to buy ones that have no Canbus error. Search for no error lED bulb or no canbus error LED, etc.
They have a resistor that imitates resistance of a normal bulb. Once resistance changes, car thinks it is burned out. It is pretty much same on all Porsche cars.

I have used the ECS bulbs in the past and to me they aren't any different or special to warrant the price they want for them. I paid $13.99 for mine and they feel better quality than the ECS ones.

just my 2 cents...
