Toll transponders
Toll transponders
Does anyone have any experience in finding a workable solution to Fastrac and other states HOV and Express lane/Bridge toll transponders? The Panamera has a metallic windshield that blocks the unit from registering with the transceivers on the roads and bridges so they have to rely on license plate photos. This works okay for bridges but since the unit doesn't transmit , in HOV and express lanes they can't tell how many people are in the car and I keep getting charges when I shouldn't. They have an external tag that mounts to the front license plate but I don't use a front license (it screws up the looks of the nose of the car and I don't want holes in my bumper) so that is not an option I want to use. Thoughts?
This is a good question. We use sunpass here in FL but I have never used one in the Panny for toll roads since my transponder is always in another car when it's needed on trips. I may look into this with the state to see if there are options.
My car has the thermally insulated glass option and there is a layer sandwiched in the windshield glass that blocks these transmissions. There are 2 cutouts adjacent to the rear view mirror that can be used to mount your transponder behind. You should be able to see them if you look carefully.
Radar detector mount location is a bit more challenging.

I had the issue with my transponder not being picked up. I called to complain about the extra charger (Hwy 407 in Canada). The person on the phone, said oh. You've got a Porsche. I'll send you a special transponder and make note on your file. New transponder seems to be fine and I've not had any photo charges.
Internal, located beside the mirror passenger side. 407 uses rfid tech to read as you get onto hwy. Uses photo if you don't have transponder. When I called the 407 to complain, they specifically mentioned I had a Porsche that the windshield can be an issue, so they send me a new 'special' transponder and also made note, not to charge photo if there was ever a non read.

Could you possibly post post a picture of it for me?
If you are talking about those hideous boxes in CA for tolls, I do not have experience other than placing them in typical places where they stick out like a sore thumb.
In Tx there are RFID tags, stickers about 2 inch long, half inch tall, that you stick behind the rear view mirror and done.
Best solution, move to TX.

I have a Florida Sunpass transponder (gray box w/ suction cups); I place it next to the rear mirror on the passenger side and so far it seems to work normally. My car is a base 2018.

Wonder if anything changed for the 971 models. I have the gray box as well mounted above the mirror close to the headliner on the right side. Granted, I have not used a transponder in the Panny (970) but, as this thread states, there is an issue with transponders.
I was on 101 GG toll last week and i could hear the beep sound. I place my FASTTRACK on the lower corner of Driver Side, I don't even stick it on the windshield. Try this if you use GG or 92.
