Hood release lever wont stay in...

Hey all,

Had a shop help me get last a broken hood latch issue, but now I have the car back for some other work, every time I pull the hood release, it comes off in my hand.

Upon inspection, it looks like there is a release lever, plastic push clip and a slot for it to clip in to. The problem is, it isnt staying put. Am I missing a piece at all? It feels like it gets into place but pulls off with so much ease.

The mounting point - notice the channel the clip slots in to.

How the clip slides into the lever

The clip not seated and pushed in

The clip fully seated, which will then sit in the channel above

seems like your clip might be borked if you can snap it on but it then pulls right off

can you press the clip in after placing the handle on the pin?

It's not the most robust design. I've learned that mine works best when I pull the lever from the very bottom while pressing the top hinge point at the top of the lever against the pillar to hold it in place. Will this procedure work for you?

Yep, I can still use it if I apply the same process as if I was using a wrench lol Ive got to hold it on there but it works.

In the video when you snapped the handle into place it looks like the clip popped out a little. Try pushing it in. If not flip the clip over and try inserting it that way. If that doesn't work buy a new clip, possibly handle...

Hey jzchen - the clip only goes in one way (clever design) but it pops out a little bit. It doesn't look like it's meant to seat flat against the handle... should it be?

Sunny - good to know!

I don't anticipate Porsche winning any Industrial Design awards for the hood pull mechanism - it's among the worst I've seen on any car.

Mine has popped off once. Now I am very careful when popping the hood. I make sure I don't pull outward on the lever. I sort of push it in as I pull it toward me.
