Evap canister replacement

Anyone had to replace evap canister?
when starts clogging it causes CEL, usually P452 or something very similar, and drivability issues.
I asked an indy shop that quoted me $1700 for the job since canister for this car comes with harnesses that have to be routed through the engine. FKN unbelievable.

Yikes! Well, you can hopefully find a DIY?

Apparently this canister comes with a whole harness. The difficulty is not in can replacement, but in routing the harness to remove, then routing again to install.
well, it's done. I paid them to do. Dealer price was double that. I guess the extra money is to feed those extra skinny techs at the dealer, who can fit between engine parts.

That was quick. Well, always quicker than me. It's 5 am here... When I was an EE CS student solutions would dawn on me in the middle of the night when I woke temporarily, for whatever reason, from sleep.

Whatever happened to tying a string to the end of the harness, pulling it through, then pulling the new harness back? Sorry, I'm slow like that. Every step on the Porsche would take me a day to figure out, like how to disengage a harness connection...

Porsche engines especially turbo, have so little space, you have to remove half of it to get to a clip, while being careful not to snap some line or something else that is fragile.

yeah, it's probably one of those things where it just doesn't pay to DIY (unless you're a masochist )

Yeah, canister replace was done quick. No more CEL (I am sure I could have lived with it but over time not good for the car either). The shaft and the canister done. Car drives well and no issues. Knocking on wood here...
