2010 970 4S - Coolant Vent Line Replacement Question
I am using @ciaka instructions for replacing the Starter (pretty close match) and using Alldata as a supplement. I am close to getting it out (I am a rookie with this type of work) and I need to replace the Coolant Vent Line while I am in there. I remove the two front screws, but I need to remove the back section from a port. Before proceeding and potentially breaking something, I wanted to check with those that have replaced this part in the past to verify how I am able to release the port. It looks like there is a clamp/clip that I can squeeze perhaps to unlock the port to allow it to be pulled out. I have posted pictures of my setup.
I appreciate anyone with past experience with this part to validate my next step. Thank you again for your help. It looks like there is a clip/clamp of some sort deep into this connector. Is this what I need to pinch with some needle nose and then pull?
If memory serves me right,
Yes that vent line (looks like a y letter), has two connectors with screws towards front of car (either side), and it plugs into a rubber tube at the rear, and is held in place with a pinch clip.
however, as soon as ypu remove the coolant vent line pinch clip, and/or screw connectors up front, coolant woll be leaking out. I advise you drain coolant from car using coolant drain valve on rad (with expansion valve cap off). Then replace the vent line.
I also have coolant pipes diy on here in cayenne turbo section....I think...go search for coolant pipes replace, that thread has detailed pictures of the cooling system, that this pipe is a part of. There are other diy articles here too on coolant pipe replacement. Also recommend having FSM.
Hope this helps.
thank you. You are right, some coolant did leak when I did the front screws/connectors. Unfortunately my car is on my driveway in an incline as I could not start my car and for whatever reason even with three men we couldn’t push it into my garage. So I have been working on it (weather permitting) in my driveway.
anyways, with the incline, I will have trouble draining it as I can’t Jack the car or even use the suspension lift.
onky a little came out when the hose when removing the screws upfront so I may have to roll the dice and just unclamp it from the back.
btw, I was able to get the Starter out! Thank you again for your guidance. It is what gave me the confidence to even try this job.

...also, go to my write up image 28. Here you will zoom in on the rear end of the vent line. You will notice that it plugs into a rubber hose. That hose is held in place by a plastic bracket, which has two parts, top and bottom. Each hose going into it ,has its designated opening. Both halves of that bracket have half circle openings, when aligned together, they form a hole fir each hose in that area. There are few screws you have to look for in that area, torx I think, that you'll loosen, so you can get that rubber hose for vent line loosen, move pinch clip off the rubber onto coolant vent line, then will have to use some small flat tool to separate rubber tube from coolant vent line connection (it will be baked to connection dye to hea). Slow here pays off lots of light and as gentle as you can pry end if hose so that you can loosen vent line and be able to spin it. ..careful not to brake it unless you have replacement.
However for starter, you should be able to gently move vent line aside...again if it's old it will be very brittle...if you hear smallest of cracks I'd just replace it or you'll find yourself removing all this stuff again to get to the line. Now that I'm thinking and watching pics, cannot remember if you have to drain coolant. Once you unplug front connectors ypu will know if coolant gushes in so careful, close back if coolant drains, then drain from bottom bof car...been a while so cant remember. Will try look in fsm later to see if i can recall better. Stick with it. Your reward for parience and diy, will be thousands of dollars. And after replace, dont use auto start. They said starter much upgradesmd, i call it bs.
That nlack shroud comes out to expose all lines going into it. The black plastic around the vent line us a tmretainer clip....keeps it in place.
Great to hear you got starter out. That black rubber covering the gears by starter needs to be put back correctly...refer to the starter diy. Look for vids on voolant vent line replce for caynne or pananera...both same engine.
great to hear...do continue...you're down hill from now.
