I'm thinking of playing hooky in two weeks, probably on the 1st or 2nd of MARCH, and heading up to a local mtn to ski. If there's any interest, we could make a 6speed group of it, and I'd be up for calling and seeing if we could get a group rate for tix.

It might be a good thing to stay overnight and do a Tues/Wed thing to get some decent snow time in, so if you have interest in that, be sure to post it. I'll take a head count of interest in tix and one overnight stay, and if we have enough people, we might get a group rate.

If there's not enough interest in overnight, I'll head to Baldy or Mtn High. For those of you unfamiliar w/Baldy, it's above Upland, and has serious off-trail terrain and a small-ish set of groomed runs. Mtn High isn't great, but mid-week, pretty much anything local is decent due to low crowds, and it's not worth it to me to go to Big Bear just for a day, it's not that much better. Might as well go to Mammoth if you want to drive a while.

Hey Evan, We're actually talking about going to Park City too, not sure of date yet. If it's during that time, for sure we could hook up. We might be at the Canyons next to Park City to try that out.

Jackson's incredible too. Really COLD there! When I was there last, it was 13 below Zero in town with no wind! But the skiing's fantastic, long and steep. Also there are outfits to rent snowmobiles nearby. We took a 90mi daytrip on sleds thru Yellowstone.

 

Just confirmed we will be in Big Bear skiing at Bear and Summit next week (March 1/2/3) in case you want to hook up and make some turns.

 

My bro who I was going with had to cancel last min. on me due to work problems . Might still head out and stay with a buddy in Beaver Creek tho.....

Thanks Evan. We just got back from Breck a couple wks ago, not much snow there although it was falling a little bit in Summit County. They'd not had much snow for several weeks, and their base was actually LOWER than in the SoCal mtns if you can believe that! So, demo some skis and get the insurance, don't take good boards, cuz you might hit a rock (unless it's continued snowing for the past couple of wks). Also, it was pretty darned icy for Colorado, and I used to live in Summit Cty, so I know. If I were you, I'd either come out here and ski with me, or go to maybe Utah or Jackson. Colorado doesn't seem to be the call, weird how the clouds pick their sweet spots sometimes.

We're going to Big Bear next week, then Mammoth a couple wks after that. It's dumping out west this year! Finally!

 

Sweeeet I just got new sticks! I am always good to go skiing, but it has to be on the weekned... With notice I can even do a three - four day trip to Mammoth or Utah.
