San Diego/tijuana Runs

You guys missed a really fun day in San Diego and Rosarito. We met at 6AM in front of P.F Chang, George, Romy, James, me and my wife. Three Porsches hitting 130MPH on long stretches from Irvine to National City. We took turn to lead. Once we arrived at the meeting point with the others and their Porsches & Ferrari, Romy surprised us with a Filipino National Parade Day. We were in the parade with our cars on the street with lovely Filipino angels. I had an honor of having Miss Filipino sat on my car and cruised in the parade with thousands of spectator. Thanks Romy!!!

Then there was a second half of the day in Rosarito with Larry & his honey. The drive down south and cross the border to Larry's house was fantastic. Scenic drive on Highway 1 with one side is the ocean and the other side is mountain was awesome. Larry's house perfect for weekend getaway. Oh, the food was great. Lobsters, rice, beans and good friends to share with. Man! I can live like this forever. Thanks Larry & Randi for your warmth hospitality.

Last but not least, thanks to Romy, George, James, Larry, Randi and my wife for giving me an excellent day with full of fun, love, surprise, and lobsters.

Excuse my ignorance, but are our cars safe down in Mexico? I would like to do that trip one day but am nervous about a few things.

Do you need any added insurance coverage? Are traffic laws similar? What happens if you get pulled over? Are the roads in good shape? Theft/carjackings?

My only experience with driving and Mexico is when someone I knew picked me up in a X5 4.4 on the U.S. side but when we crossed the border he had a Suburban with 2 body gaurds follow us everywhere. Is it dangerous for a non hispanic looking guy to be driving a high profile car in Mexico...or are the border towns o.k.?

That is what many people believed when they want to go but afraid with all these unknown. I have been to TJ, Rosarito, and further down Ensenada for the last 21 years and I have no problem with the locals and the police. I drove my Benzes, Bimmers and now my Porsche with ease. You can buy extra insurance near the border but don't count too much on it. Traffic laws is not much different, just get use to it. Road condition is depend where you are going, but if you go like downtown TJ, Highway 1 to Rosarito and Ensenada are fine. Car thief only if you leave it in the bad neighborhood just like here in the U.S. And if you don't give dirty look to the locals and the police and don't drive like you own the road then the chance you get pull over is slim. And if you do, just like any third world country give the policeman some $$ to make him happy and you'll fine.

I do stay overnight when I have too much to drink or when I'm with a local beauty. Park my car at the reputable hotel with 24 hrs. security. Just give the guard $20 and he will keep your car safe all night and you made a friend that you can depend on the next time you are down there.

I'm thinking to cross the border again in July. Had such a great time with food & sceneries.
