Rotors - Who makes the lightest weight rotors?
Pricing is always a tough issue and I'll work on it. But I get the impression that they would like a broader market than a very niche product. Their product is not just a 2 piece rotor version of a factory part. It has added design to facilitate added cooling and a couple other benefits. Needless to say I think the pricing will be published soon as I have it.
Giro Disc Direct Replacement Floating Rotors from RSS
Greetings 6 Speeders,
We were going to announce our new Porsche 2 piece direct replacement floating rotors next week but this thread has motivated us to do a pre-launch of this new product line. We manufacture and assemble the Giro Disc rotors in house.
The first Porsche applications (available next week) will be for the 996, 997, 997S, Cayman S and Boxster S. These direct replacements (FRONT & REAR) 2 piece rotors utilized the factory calipers (including parking brake), reduce un-sprung weight, improved braking, provide larger swept area, increased cooling efficiency and offer extended rotor life and serviceability. All rotors are larger than the factory sizes but still enable you to use the already phenomenal Porsche calipers. All rotors come slotted. These rotor packages have been thoroughly track tested with great success in the Grand Am Koni challenge series for 2 seasons with 996 and 997 cars and winning the season opener in Daytona. The Giro Disc rotors are engineered to maintain the proper brake bias and pedal feel to ensure optimum braking performance.
996 Factory Rotor Size: 317mm Front / 298mm Rear
996 Giro Disc 2 Piece Rotors: 340mm Front / 325mm Rear
997 Factory Rotor Size: 317mm Front / 298mm Rear
997 Giro Disc 2 Piece Rotors: 340mm Front / 325mm Rear
987 Cayman (S) & Boxster (S): 317mm Front / 298mm Rear
987 Giro Disc 2 Piece Rotors: 340mm Front / 325mm Rear
Direct replacement 2 piece floating rotors for the Turbo, C4S, GT3 and GT2 as well as carbon ceramic replacements applications will be available in June. The factory 996 Turbo brake rotors are 330mm front and 330mm rear. The Giro Disc direct replacement 2 piece floating rotors grow the fronts and rears to 350mm. The Giro Disc 997 Turbo 2 piece floating rotors are the same size in the front and rear as the factory at 350mm.
996, 997 and 987 applications retail for $2200 for a set of Front and Rears.
996 Turbo, 997 Turbo and 997 GT3 retail for $2400 for a set of Front and Rears.
Again, these rotors have been tested on the street and tortured on the track to deliver uncompromised braking performance. We are taking order now and will be delivering product next week for non Turbo/GT3 cars. As you can see by the photos below we are geared up for high quality brake manufacturing. We also private label brake packages for many other well respected tuners in the industry.
Give us a call with any questions. You can place orders directly through us or through one of our qualified dealers like Shark Werks.

alex can chime in here, but i think he is going with the new solution rather than coleman at the moment. i too prefer to go with the newest solution so that i can do front and rear.
one quick question. are these only available as floating? my preference is to have fixed so that we get less noise on a car that sees a lot of street driving...

Floating 2 Piece Rotors vs. One Piece Rotors

Some people associate a 2 piece floating rotor with noise but the fact of the matter is that the design of the system will cause noise or lack there of. Our 2 piece floating rotors system is as quiet as any one piece rotor set up. The noise is usually the result of not having spring washers or spring clips that control the float. Others believe that 2 piece floating rotors may be "noisier" when in reality it may just be a more aggressive pad compound they hear. A well engineered 2 piece floating rotor should offer you the best of all worlds, Lighter Weight and Improved Braking Performance all without sacrificing OEM level drivability.
Thanks again to everyone for all their time and consideration,
Greg
gents, i'm working with greg on pricing. He is sharpenning his pencil on the numbers, but specifically i'm trying to get volume discount pricing. Meaning if between here and rennlist we can get 10 buyers = $x, 15 buyers = $y, 20 buyers =$z.... The product for the 996tt and gt3's are available in June, so we have a little time to assemble a group.
Guys I've talked to Flyellow about this and honestly my decision would be to go with RSS on this (and not just because we aleady have a great working relationship). They've long been doing 2 piece rotors for many, many applications and well known companies. Plus they're sponsors
Greg can fill you guys in but it's really neat stuff and for _both_ front and rear.
