Cayenne S 958 - Battery replacement... what is this connector???

I am replacing battery on my car and I noticed this connector that is just hanging there... I don't remember disconnecting it when taking the old battery out... anyone know what this connector is for?

No idea at all - is it coming from inside the battery case, or as it looks, along side the case?

There is a battery monitoring connection on the positive battery terminal (measures the current and temperature of the battery so the charging system knows what charge level to use..) but this looks like it isn't in the case - the battery connection IS in the sealed case.

There are a number of connections that go to the bottom of the seat.. could this be one for the seat-belt latch?

It is running along the case side and it's a very short cable so I don't think it connects to the seat. Also the carpet seals the entire area and no cables go from battery compartment to seat. This particular connector is attached to another cable at the bottom as you can see in the picture. It looks like a sensor but workshop manual has no reference to it.

Actually - I can't really see in the picture. It's mostly black plastic showing with not a lot of depth.

To clarify - it is not originating inside the battery case - correct?

Went through the wiring diagrams - and couldn't find any cable/connector matching the wire colors that are in your picture (blue? And maybe black/yellow?)

But - did find some images that might give a clue:

First image - note the blue circle (I added) - and the connector/wiring shown there:

Second image - same thing - the connector inside the blue circle:

It appears the connector in the images plugs into the side of the main fuse area.. you might see if you can spot a place to plug it in there..

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I looked at these as well and tried finding a place where this connector might go. As you can see in the pictures the connector is really short and ends right there. I opened the plastic trims around there and I only see the negative cable connections there. I don't see anything on top of the distribution box either. I looked at the instructions in the workshop manual for battery replacement, distributor replacement and fuse panel replacement.... no references to this particular connector at all!!

I'll look at mine - if I can get the carpeting up enough to slip my cell phone camera under there I'll try taking a picture. No promises though..

Found it - waiting on the photos to transfer from my cell..

The thing plugs in as far down as you can get.. and you'll probably have to compress the battery box a bit to get it in.

So there you have it..

No...but at least now I know where it goes... I have to take apart the distribution box to see why I don't have the socket to have this plugged into.

OK. Take some pics while you're tearing it apart.. always good documentation (and handy sometimes when putting it all back together..)
