Gbox 2nd gear detent......... UK Bad Press!!!!!

This was my initial post last night on 911uk as i picked my car up yesterday from my mechanic after him carrying out these mods and as you my read i am over the moon with the results.
But since bringing to light that i have fitted a GBox 2nd gear Detent as a future precaution on my car i am shocked at what bad press these have over here in the uk as ive done alot of reading up on this forum and know that alot of you guys run them thats why i decided to do the same.
seems theres an assumption of running these can turn into expensive gearbox failure due to Detent over throw in all gears??? i am yet to find any cases of this that is why i thought i would ask you guys about it before i fight my own corner.

Below is a link to my 911uk post.

"My turbo has been with Matt @Porschacare for the last week over here in the UK here is a list of what he has been up to.

OEM GT2 clutch slave and master conversion (drilled and tapped bell housing)
RSS Tarmac mounts with 997.2 transmission mount.
Gbox 2nd gear detent
Full service including spark plugs.

One word UNBELIVEABLE!!!!....... My car already had 890 clutch with Lwfw and I must be honest although it's a great setup but the pull away and bite point has always been awful , to a point you would dred any kind of hill start and quick pull away off the lights.
Well not anymore the feel now is how I've always imagined it should feel it's transformed the car for me and will honesty say the best Mod I've done to the car yet.
Now this accompanied by the RSS mounts and new 997 transmission mount has completely Blow my mind, the car feels so prescise and balanced now and quite Raw, almost like its had a full suspension setup!!!!

So a Massive thanks to Matt @ Porschacare the guy is an absolute Genius.

I wanna go for another Drive!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Well, I just rebuilt my transmission and had used that GBox's detent for five years. 2nd gear synchro's teeth were worn, but I did not have any issues with 2nd gear pop out. Neither were there any signs of other gear synchro mechanism damage. I replaced 1-4 gear synchros, 2-4 to steel ones because of track use. 5-6 were OK, no visible damage or measurable wear.
But, as the box was open, I changed that GBox detent to CMS's shift arrester:

I don't believe the Gbox detent increases the throw, it simply has more spring pressure. This extra pressure makes popping out of gear a little more difficult. This is definitely not a long term solution.

The CMS shift arrestor on the other hand is a better solution, but does increase the throws. BTW I have a CMS shift arrestor in my car and don't have any issues.

Later, Steve

Exactly that......there is no evidence of these over throwing other gear and as I stated I've only fitted this as a future precaution.

If the tolerances in the gearbox are set right by someone who knows what he is doing you don't need an aftermarket detent. Years ago, I had my gearbox repaired by a clown due to my gearbox main shaft bearing failure. After the rebuild, I immediately developed a second gear popout which I never had before (100k trouble free miles). Detent was fitted which stopped the pop out but 10k miles later my gearbox bearings failed again but this time gears 1 and 2 teeth were worn too. Then I took it to a proper rebuilder in Germany who told me forget the detent. It will cause more harm than good. He re-fitted OEM detent and now I have zero issues and zero pop outs. Brits are right. Avoid aftermarket detent.

^ this. rebuild the box properly the first time or try the 8mm(?) ball bearing....detent is a stopgap at best. the "cms" arrester is a better piece, i am told.
