I've finally placed my 911S in "makeover" mode. I've had a few people tell me to not have the car repainted, etc., as this would diminish the value, but then I thought "I'm keeping her" - besides, I don't like all the patina and rock chips, etc.

I purchased an OEM Aero bumper from Suncoast parts (great prices and service), a new bonnet badge (couldn't put a faded 2007 onto a freshly painted piece - yikers - badges are expensive - but worth it IMO). I also purchased the GT3 Vent, black screen and template from Rennline - I had previously ordered their 4-pedal set and was very impressed with their quality and service.

I decided to have a complete touch-up of all imperfections from front-end to rear-end (not cheap) and full respray and hardcore clear coat.

It's been two weeks in the shop and I'm informed she will be ready possibly tomorrow, but it could be Monday - I told them the car demands perfection and OEM quality - take your time - nothing but perfection is demanded and expected!

The look today - hard to see it - but it's near completion:



The front will also receive the third radiator so the vent will be functional.

I decided on a particular look for the car minus the rear wing. I love the GT3 front-end look, but with no wing - keeping with her beautiful lines!

Here's the former look, and the targeted "look", respectively:

Target LOOK: Photoshop and image of an online 997.1 - looks like a GT3 given the wheels, but no rear wing (NEVER) - PERFECTION to me (photoshopped my headlight rings - excellent accent IMO).



Next up is the 60K service, install of IPD Plenum, GT3 TB and tune. I'm also going to order the Fabspeed CF dual intake to compliment the GT3 TB and IPD Plenum.

I'm still digging my Lobster's with 15mm spacers squared, but I'll be looking at another set and using the 19" for winters as I'm relocating to OKC 3/31 and figure I'll eventually need them. Lastly, the H&R Springs will be replaced with Coil Overs for my personalized selective stance.

For now I'm thinking 991 OEM Carrera, and although I love the look, I need to think again about 20"s - I ran Vossen 20" on my last 997 and it didn't take long to dispose of them. These have a "stepped' look to them, and they're OEM (Wheel Enhancement) so they're at the top of my list.

Cool - congrats on deciding to do the refresh. She's going to look great and drive just as well. I'm personally not a fan of 20s on the 997 - they just look a little too big and make for even less sidewall. There are tons of very attractive 19" stepped lip, forged wheel choices out there from Forgeline, HRE, ADV1, Velos Designworks, Niche, Vossen, etc.

 

Thanks. I generally agree as I ran 20" on my last 997 and after 2-3 months I sold them and returned to 19". The Carrera III on the picture did catch my eye but doubt I'd go there again - pondering it.

the kit already comes with a gt3 lip same as oem aero kit! i had the gt3 motorsports lip and destroyed it in a month! im lowered on kw v3

 

Yeah, I know. I bought it new from Suncoast Porsche and the GT3 vent from Rennline. But, I've read where the lip damages easily which is why I'm interested in the GT3 variant which is urethane and more resiliant.

 

i didnt know there was a difference! but the one that come with it is primerd already and its been pretty good! the motorsports lip is just to low but it did take a beating! but its always good to have spares

I see a similar refinish in my future. My car 2006 Base Carrera is actually in great shape for 100K miles but the patina on the front bumper is getting just beyond my limit. Curious about the level of sanding your guy does prior to full clear. When yours is done I would love to get the full details on the process and cost...

 

I hope to have it back today. It's reassembly as I type this but the shop is waiting on the gas door hinge that needed replacement from Porsche. It should be good to go.

I opted for for the OEM aero kit with Rennline's GT3 vent and mounting equipment as well as the cutting template. To repair the front bumper of all chips would have required a good amount of labor cost, however, I now have exactly what I wanted.

So far it's close to $5k for everything.

 

I'm sure your coming unglued with anticipation. Can't wait to see the results. Did they re spray the whole car with base color and then clear or just touch up the blemishes then sand the clear and re apply clear?

 

I picked up my car today and I could not have been more please with "the look" and the work, other than 1 slight oversight by the body shop - but I decided to take possession of the car after nearly 2 weeks. The OEM bumper comes with 2 little dimples for those who chose to place their license plate on the car. It comes with a US version plate bracket as well as a euro version. Anyway, they overlooked filling them in - not that big of a deal, and certainly not enough for me to continue driving a rental given the 911 is my daily driver.

I've seen pictures, and even a few GT3s up close, but now that it's on my car it's another ball-game - I can't stop looking at it and in my opinion it never should have been optional - perfection.
