2015 Boxster - High Front end Damage

Once again I found my "dream car"...and it's going up for auction soon.
PDK, Beautiful dark blue metallic. Not sure of the other options.

Car appears to have had a collision under a truck's backside...2 quarter panels and hood needed, as well as a new windshield. All of the damage was "high"...so suspension likely in-tact.

I did find a used front clip for $12,000....but the car's trade-in value is only $35k. Given the fact this is salvage title deal, the car would be really only worth 60% of the $35k or valued at $21k all-fixed-up.

So given at least $8,000 in body shop labor to replace the two quarter panels, the hood, the radiator and condensor, as well as the windshield... and then include the $12k in parts, this car should be bid at.....$0k.
In other words, it's worth nothing....except for it's parts.

Am I wrong on this ?

The most needed parts: front fenders, bumper cover, trunk lid, are damaged and probably have no salvage value.

One is left with the engine, transmission, other running gear, steering, and the soft interior bits. Local Porsche salvage business has buildings full of the soft bits from cars. These just don't fly off the shelves.

BTW, I think you are low on your estimate. I have to again point out people who appraise these cars for a living have deemed this car a total loss.

My 2003 Turbo after a mule deer hit suffered damage "up high". The mule deer beat the heck out of the car's nose as it tried to climb off with just 3 working legs.

Bumper cover. Passenger side headlight. Front trunk lid. Passenger side fender. Front tires (passenger side tire cut and both tires were replaced). Radiator. Condenser. Lots of radiator/condenser bracketry and hardware. Vapor recovery hardware (located under the passenger fender). Paint. Coolant system refill. A/C system service. Alignment. Brake fluid flush/bleed. Two months of a rental car while the car was in the shop.

Total cost came to over $25K and this back in August 2009.

Those factory sourced Cayman fenders, trunk lid, probably bumper cover, windshield are going to cost some money. Roughly I'd estimate $8K to $9K for parts alone then labor on top of that and paint and other stuff that always seems to be necessary once the plastic and sheet metal comes off.

My WAG is one is looking at close to $20K -- and maybe more given it was declared a total loss -- to put that Boxster right. This assumes there is no damage to the tub/chassis. Even the mule deer hit bent some tub metal. The shelf that runs along side the front trunk where the where the fender bolts. The car had to put on a Celette Bench and this shelf brought be into position so the passenger fender would be properly positioned.

A car that did a nose dive under another vehicle (truck) I think would suffer some similar type of sheet metal "damage".

Have you tried looking for used Porsches that are not offered for sale with a salvage title?

Thanks Mac....I just love this car because I know the drivetrain and engine were not affected. The huge risk is if the front shock towers got bent...that's the biggie.
I have looked long and hard, but I can't afford the $40k-$50k dealer price tag...for a 2013-2015 981.
This car looks to be going off at auction at about $5k-$8k....so that is still a deal to me to bring this beauty back-to-life.
I've found a local shop who is willing to do the work.....given the front-clip that I've sourced.

Good grief. That's a heck of a hit. There's damage down low you can be sure.

Agreed, but with a full front clip, the repair can be accelerated.
Piece-meal repairs can be super labor intensive.
In this case, it's straightforward..... cut it off, and replace it.....high tech MIG welding to-the-rescue !!
BTW: You have any idea how difficult it was to find a front-clip for a 981 ?

Well, all I can offer is best of luck.

Be sure to document the process. It ought to be interesting.

Here's one where somebody likely died: Looks like he hit a pole sideways at about 100 mph.

Mac - I passed on this smashed boxster and won an auction for a 2014 that had only minor rear damage. It's currently pending approval.
It's a black beauty with PDK....boy, was I lucky to get it.
There was only one other bidder from Indiana...and he pushed me within $300 of my buying power. Whew, that was close.
I hope it goes thru.
