Yes, I meant the aluminum covering. Not a huge deal for me, just not sure I have the time to make it right, with only 5 days left here and wont touch the car for a year.

Having a blast driving it though. Put 1k miles on it in the past 10 days so far. Trying to get a PC to get the VAP tune put on it. At least want to see the difference. But not sure I have the time. Rather be driving it. LOL

We will see.

I want to do this on my V8V and dump the flat armrest. I just cant justify the cost at this point. Looking forward to finished results.

Hi everyone,

A month ago, I finally decided to pull the trigger and bought a pre-owned armrest console on eBay. I have a 2006 DB9 that originally came with the flat version of the armrest. I really wanted some extra storage space, and I also wanted the cup holders in a more “normal” placement.

I’ve just finished installing it, and while the process was pretty straightforward, I do have a few findings to share:

1- You can reuse the same “Panel Assembly Console,” but you’ll need to trim certain parts to make it fit. Here an image of the original part from my car and marked the cuts I made with a dashed red line.

2. After trimming the panel, I test-fitted it. Once I confirmed everything aligned properly, I moved on to the electrical installation. I extended both the cigarette lighter power and the cigarette lighter light to the back, so I could have power inside the console. I zip-tied the new cables to the main line running through the center console.
Original Connectors for the cigarette lighter under the aluminum lid.

Cables to extend the power and light bulbs connectors.

3. The console I bought came with the cigarette lighter housing and bulb, so to finish the connections, I only needed to buy the power connector:

4. Last, but most important finding. I’ve read that some people suggest cutting the aluminum under the Panel Assembly Console — please do not cut it. The new console fits perfectly; you just need to maneuver it a bit until the drawer slides into place.

5-This isn’t a hard project. The only intimidating part is trimming the plastic, but overall, it’s absolutely worth it.
And here’s the final result:
