Hi Everyone,

Interesting update for you. We watched the AMR Clutch release with some interest, to see how it would be received by the market. Aston obviously saw that the multiple Twin Plate offerings had reached a high level of popularity and responded with their own version. A couple of things were evident:

1. There was no resistance to a 2-Piece flywheel versus a 1 piece CNC Machined Flywheel.

2. The Price point on the AMR Unit was well received.

Having observed this we further analyzed the AMR offering and found a couple of things:

1. The actual clutch pack offered, rather than the V12VS unit, is a smaller/shorter unit comparable to the Audi R8 original equipment. We feel this has less wear potential and is a compromise.

2. The package is not offered for the ASM cars.

Our solution was to pony up and invest in a 2-Piece design to reduce costs and allow the superior OEM V12VS clutch to still be fitted, and to both manual and ASM cars. There is a lot more up front cost, as the flywheel is made from a casting, but the per-part cost is substantially lower.

Once we have tested and signed off will go into full production. We don't have final pricing just yet, but it looks like it will reduce the cost of the Twin Plate kit to around $3600-3700, making it comparable to the AMR.

Stuart-

I'm a little confused here. Are you saying that you modified the original dual plate kit that you originally developed, or are you saying that you're merely reducing its price to be more competitive with the AMR version?

Yes : his solution was to invest in a 2-Piece design (for the flywheel) to reduce costs.

Everything is exactly the same as the original twin plate kit we sell. The only difference is that the flywheel is now 2-piece (cast with ring gear heated and shrunk on, just like the AMR flywheel) instead of CNC machined from a single piece of steel.

Everything else is completely identical.

CNC Machining has a higher per piece production cost, but has the advantage that you can run as little as 1 piece, and it really doesn't change the cost.

A 2-Piece flywheel is MUCH less expensive to make, however has the front-end cost loading of developing the casting, analyzing the material flow through the casting, checking for metallurgical & nodular consistency etc. Then, in order to make the numbers work, you need to make a lot of pieces at once. In this case, our initial production run will be 5 pieces.

So in this case, it means that in the short term it costs us a lot more money, but since it means we can reduce the price of the kit substantially we think it's a worthwhile investment.

The net result is that you can get essentially the AMR price, but still use the V12VS clutch, and have an ASM option (for the pre-2015 cars)

Are the weights comparable between the 2-pieces vs 1-piece flywheel?

The first 50 pieces are finished, due to ship from our supplier tomorrow, should be in stock next week. We also have some clutch news that we are working on.

Can you update your website with the new V2 kit along with the supposed lower price please. I have a feeling my OE clutch is about to go.

We will shortly. Since they were not ready to ship, we didn't want to get it adjusted just yet.
