V8 Vantage Twin Plate Organic Clutch & Flywheel OEM Replacement Upgrade
#17
It has even helped me "rev match"
DonL, Glad to hear of your successful clutch/flywheel upgrade. Sounds as if your experiences at the dealership, and improved vehicle function as a result, have been the same as mine.
Over the 8 years I have had my V8V I have made about 35 modifications. Of all these, this one, the great twin plate clutch & billet steel flywheel project, is best. The improvements are recognized during every seat of the pants dyno excursion.
If I was still working, I would be taking the long way home.

It fixes all of the shifting notchiness too, it's amazing how much of the transmissions flaw stem from the poor OEM clutch design.
Definitely do the upgrade if you have to replace a failed clutch anyways.

Have you done this upgrade?

V8 vantage flywheel and clutch
Hello Stuart
Now I maybe barking up the wrong tree here , but as the Aston Vantage V8 is based on the Jaguar AJ V8 would you kit work on a 2002 Jaguar s type r using the 4.2 supercharged version , as in the process of trying to find a flywheel and clutch to mate it up to the Jaguar diesel gearbox wich uses same bell housing pattern and being a diesel gearbox should handle the torque , the engine is being fitted into a 1970 Escort , so probably not your normal style vehicle .
Thanks for your advice , cheers Ian

The clutch is just a clutch, and the hydraulic release bearing/slave is just a hydraulic bearing so as long as you can drill & tap the bell housing to receive the bearing, and then shim it to be the correct distance from the clutch cover, that can in theory work. Basically, that stuff is all mechanical and really within reason, most clutches with matching bearings can work in there. The critical thing will be - is the bolt pattern on the crank the same as the V8V, that I can't tell you. Could send you a used OEM flywheel perhaps, to try and see?
At that point you have to do some engineering & measurement to ensure that the flywheel will fit in the bellhousing, that the gear pattern is correct to engage the starter motor, and that the deck height is workable in terms of the distance from the crank face to the bearing face.

Hello Stuart , thanks for your reply like you say clutch could easily enough be sorted it's the flywheel having problem with , after some machining have managed to get a Jaguar 2.7 diesel flywheel onto the crank as bolt pattern the same but ring gear will not work and beeing a dual mass flywheel, it's far to heavy , if you could send me a flywheel that would be extremely helpful in moving forward with the issue , would think this would cost a lot to send to England though , do you have an idea of shipping costs ?
Thanks again , cheers Ian
