How much does this hood weigh...does the opening in the hood do anything or is it cosmetic?

 

Mine weighed 14lbs unpainted WITH hood latch attached. The vent is cosmetic on the 996 as far as I know.

I bet the vent draws some cool air to the boot where I keep my drinks cold!

I am interested but have heard these hoods have some fitment issues.

I remember all the issues you had trying to line up that hood...

Were they ever all resolved?

 

It all depends who the installer/body shop is and how much massaging they are willing to do, check out mine, it's pretty close to perfect:

 

Install as Ron said is only as good as the shop. This part does need to be fit and takes some work. Unfortunatly I have yet to find a good bodyshop here so mine is not perfect. Hasn't bothered me at all though, it is a lot more noticable in photos than in person. It can be good (as Ron's car is), but does need some work.
