Here are some of the features:
Books and records – diligently serviced. I have records going back to 45K miles from the first owner. See below for summary of service/repair highlights.
EVO 600 kit that has purportedly modified this car to 600 hp. I have not dyno'd it but it screams like it's nuclear powered.
Recent clutch, slave cylinder, power steering hoses, water pump and 2 front radiators.
Tires have about 9K miles on them.
Champion RG5 18-inch wheels. Do not have originals. Car came with some iForge Carmon Red wheels that were a little over the top. Buh bye to those.
Larger spoiler. Original included with sale.
Pioneer AVH-4200NEX receiver with Android Auto, backup camera, and Bluetooth. Original parts as pictured included with sale but they have not been hooked up to verify operation. I got the car with the new stereo, and the original components in a box. First owner also bumped up the speakers and amp pretty significantly. A modified Turbo Cab is not the best place to enjoy the finer intricacies of music but it’s loud so you can hear it.
2 keys – one has been updated to a Carrera GT style but the shell for the old key is included with the sale.
Clear front side lights.
Hard-wired CTEK battery tender.
Windblocker
The car has an old built in K40 radar and laser detector that I have abandoned but not removed. My Escort Max 360 works much better.
Answers to a few anticipated questions:
Yes, I do have a DME report. See photos. Keep in mind that tuning a car (like this one) frequently raises the rev limiter but the DME does not pick up on that. Also keep in mind the calculation: Number of Revs/3 = X. X/7000 x 60 = number of seconds in a given range. So based on my DME this car has spent 5.5 seconds in range 2 and 65 seconds in range 1. For context, the DME says I have 2606 operating hours, or 156,360 seconds.
No, coolant pipes are not pinned or welded. There is a record in the service history where the first owner had a leak in one pipe and fixed that one only. So if you are really into this issue, the job is 17% done. My mechanic who is not shy about asking for money when necessary told me not to worry about it.
No, I have not tracked the car. I went to one driver’s education event on track but no wheel to wheel or heavy racing action. I do not think the first owner tracked the car either.
I am selling because I have checked the box for owning a fast convertible. I will replace this with a 911 coupe - maybe a 997.2 or 991 Carrera or S. Something a little more sedate, because this thing goes and screams like the dragon from the Game of Thrones.
"Underside Shots" - everyone asks for them so I took some. That said, I have no idea what the hell I'm photographing or why. Enjoy!
Known Issues:
A/C fan makes a squeak noise at 4 of the lower speeds. It has not bothered me enough to fix it. It's not exactly a quiet car where all you hear is the ticking of the clock, so I speed up the fan or hit the gas if the sound is bothering me - which it almost never is.
Clear coat is delaminating a little on rear right fender (see pic.)
There is road rash on the front bumper and hood appropriate to car of this age (pic)
Interior generally looks great but there are some black marks where leather has been nicked (pics). Also an anchor for the floor mat on driver's side came loose and scuffed the carpet under the mat. I have new tan mats and am including the black Lloyd's mats that came with the car. The tint on back windows rubs a little when putting top up and down. There is a stain on passenger seat leather (see pic) and the leather at that location is not supple like the rest of the upholstery.
The Long Story:
The first owner purchased the car new from Gaudin Porsche in Las Vegas. He told me he got the third Turbo Cab delivered in Vegas after a couple of casino bosses got theirs, and he had a connection because he was the contractor who built the dealership on Sahara. Before taking delivery he had an Evolution EVO 600 kit installed by the best tech at Gaudin, Todd, who now runs Trophy Performance in Vegas. I have tried to get the paperwork for this without success. Todd does remember putting on the kit, Evo confirms they did packages like this commonly at that time, I have an EVO sticker on the exhaust, Trophy confirms this has bigger turbos than stock, and it’s fast! So that’s what I know about the modifications.
The first owner drove the car extensively in Vegas, then moved to Orange County. It spent some time at his second home in Oregon also, but when I bought it the car was back in O.C. When I got the car I immediately took it to Todd, now at Trophy, for a no-holds-barred inspection and repair. He remembered the car and the first owner. The resulting invoice was almost $9 grand. Since then the maintenance has been more routine. The Car Fax states that the car passed smog in California before I bought it. I have no idea what crazy ideas California has had since then - that's why I left! The car passes smog in Nevada.
This car attracts a lot of attention. When I walked out of the bank in San Clemente having exchanged a cashier's check for the title, a man walking into the bank said "that is the most beautiful car I have ever seen." That was a nice affirmation to receive, having just put a dent in my bank account.
