What are my legal rights?
What are my legal rights?
I got a speeding ticket today ( Frisco) in my work truck ( laser)
I asked politely to see the readout on the gun and the officer
would not show me.
I asked him to write on the ticket that he would not show me the readout
and he would not.
what are my rights? and what would you do?
Attorneys feel free to chime in....

In Texas, the officer is not required to show you the radar gun at the point of ticketing. If you go to court, he has to bring the records of the gun's maintenance, servicing, and also where it clocked you going that speed. I'd suggest you call a traffic attorney. If it's in your city, they can go to court with you and even if it's not in your city, they can talk to the judge and negotiate deferred adjudication.
Or you can go to traffic school like I just did to get the ticket erased. For time and money, I think this is your best avenue. Mine cost me $149 for the ticket cost and traffic school, plus 6 hours on Sat. An attorney will cost more than that and you'll still end up paying for the ticket portion. If I had gone for deferred adjudication, my ticket would have been $249 and I'd have been on probation for 3 months.

Between attorney fees and the ticket, then probation for deferred adjudication, it wasnt worth it to me. If you get another ticket in 90 days not only do you get the 2nd full fine and points, you also get the full fine and points reinstated for the first one. I wish you luck...
Passport ZR 3 and ZR4 Shifters work for me.
Check out the Passport's Lazer Shifters. They have saved me many times down here in H Town.

I am contesting the ticket
I saw the cop shooting the laser
I looked down and was going 46 ( I thought it was 45)
and continued on.
After he pulled me over he told me the limit was 40
and gave me a ticket for 54
I disagreed with him and asked to see the gun
He hesitated a few seconds and then told me I couldnt see it.

Get A Lawyer
Personally - I've taken defensive driving more than 8 times and gone the lawyer and/or deferred route 3 times. Defensive driving is far cheaper but the lawyer is far better for the results you will get. Depending on the number of pending cases - just getting a lawyer can get your ticket dismissed if it isn't a huge violation.
Also - depending on the county - I've just called up the courthouse and told them their deferred adjudication fee was more expensive than my lawyer and they gave me deferred adjudication at the cost of just the ticket.
A lawyer to them means the possibility of only taking court fees and not a fine.
You'll want to find a lawyer local to the county where the ticket was or they will charge you more for out-of-county work. Ticket lawyers around here are only about $100 per ticket (in county) unless you've done something far beyond speeding.

I got a ticket in Waxacrapie going 110 in a 65.
I googled traffic attorney for that city and paid an attorney $250 and she got me out of it
I had to pay the court $400 but I am free and clear.
Just a quick google and any attorney that has a decent name will get you out of it.

I got mine in the same general area on Prestonwood heading North just before 121. My office looks over that area and the cop looks like he writes tickets until he runs out of ink. From the traffic school, that area has been getting a very high attention rate from the cops due to accidents.
I now have a Beltronics RX65 radar detector. Its lit up most of the time I'm in that area.
