99 996 coolant problem, what to check?

So out of no where while I was driving yesterday, I look behind me and see a huge cloud of smoke building up and its coming from MY car. It was coolant smoking up, I look at my temp gauge and the low coolant light is flashing so I pulled over and looked in my resovoir, my car dumped out all the coolant in it and was starting to get really hot. I pulled over, got it to my mechanic today and he tells me that there was air bubbles that needed to be burped out of my coolant, and he did that, drove fine for the whole day, I drove it about 120-150 miles when I saw that low coolant light come on again, this time it hasnt dumped all the coolant or overheat, but it looks like my car is using WAY too much coolant. Any ideas? head gasket? My mechanic went home for the day and now Im a bit worried....

check the coolant reservoir..they develop hairline cracks....much more likely than a head gasket

Yep, Chuck is right on this one.... sometimes those with less experience like the tech you took it to might not know of this issue.
This is why it is best to take it to a Porsche tech and not a general mechanic.

Good Luck,
