2005 Gallardo egear clutch
2005 Gallardo egear clutch
I have a 2005 Gallardo egear that will likely need a new clutch and throw-out bearing soon. The dealer wants 6K + 3.5K. I found them on ebay for much less. Will I need to get the CPU reflashed at install as the dealership is 2.5 hours away?
Any place near Jacksonville, Florida with the software if needed?

There is some egear cars that are having shifting problems and the fix is really expensive. The pump and solenoid are going bad because of metal shaving. If you have a warranty it may just be cheaper in the long run to let the dealer do the job.
Early Gallardo's have clutch problems for 2 reasons: the material the clutch disc is made out of is substandard for the tall gears that the early gearboxes have. Automobili Lamborghini has remedied this by making stronger, better clutches for these early cars and by changing the gear ratios in the later cars so that they take off smoother, with less wear and tear on the clutch.
does your dealer offer discounts on labor and parts?
most dealers do special promos 3-4x a year. you should get onto their list.
if you choose not to have the dealer do it, the indy shop will need to have a lambo computer to flush the egear fluid and reset the egear computer.
btw, if you just do a clutch job and your egear system fails due to broken pipe, actuator or pump, the dealer will still charge you to fix it. that's because they just changed the clutch.

Early is considered cars built in '03-'04. The gearboxes in these cars had taller(wide ratio) gears making the clutch's job difficult. Imagine trying to take off in second gear and how much throttle is required and how much clutch slip you need to avoid stalling the car.....that is in effect(although to a lesser degree) what was taking place. Automobili Lamborghini improved the clutch packs for greater performance and longevity and the modified the later gearboxes for a more favorable ratio beginning in I believe '05. I don't know the exact details on production date or VIN, but our instructor at the factory gave us this info during a technical training session. Hope this helps!

MY2006 have the better 1st gear ratio. MY2004 and 2005 do not.
Unless your 2005 is on the original clutch, it's got the newer clutch which should last 15-25K miles if driven correctly. the original clutch typically lasts about 7k miles and were replaced under warranty.
