Floor Jack and E46 M3

Ok, I know this is a super basic question, but figured I'd ask. Can anyone provide details about the proper way to lift an E46 M3 with a 3 ton floor jack? I assume there are specific jack points under the car, but I have no idea where they are and I don't want to damage anything. Pics would be great if you have any.

thanks

Just look under your car behind the front wheel and in front of the rear wheel. You will see black rubber like square "pads" , these are the jack points. Be careful you may need a extra low type jack to get under there. just like a 911 its a pain to jack up.

you can definetly use those. I usually jack up from the rear pads first to get the front jack stands on then do the back. There is also one jack point in the front of the car and one in the rear. It is round, and looks like a rubber hocket puck, you can use those as well. Now I just gottta figure out how to jack up my 997 GT3, looks like a PITA.

Correct, I have jacked up using the front side pad, then you can reach the center "puck" and transfer to that, then jackstands under the front 2 side pads. I also made little wooden "pads" for my jackstand tops to hold firm on the pads.

I wouldn't use those stock "pads". They're made for your spare tire jack, not a floor jack.

If you need alittle more ground clearance to get a jack under a car, try using some 2x4s or 2x8s. Just cut some boards 24-36" long and use them as mini ramps.

I hate BMW's factory jacks. Just had to vent that out.

I think you are mistaken. If the e46 is like the e36, the spare tire jack is inserted into holes behind the side skirts. Thats what the two round "jack hole covers" are for. I've always used to pads underneath the car when using a floor jack

If you were to use a floor jack with a standard 3-4" cup, it would crush your sideskirts. Thank you for correcting me though, I really do appreciate it.
