If you don't have an auto-dimming mirror the best thing to do is run a wire down to the fuse box. You can use the ground from the dome lights, but for an ignition-switched 12V fuse box is your best bet.

You can just use one of the unused fuse slots in the box itself.

for the guys without the auto dimming mirror, has anyone used the 12V power switch from the sunroof? i believe the 12V is only present when the car is on.

Use the switched 12 volt red wire behind the fusebox. I've done this for a few 997's already and works great

Is there any chance you can use something from this site to ease in the wiring??

http://www.invisicord.com/index.html

I have used pre-cut cords from them in my last 2 cars and it has worked like a charm for my V1.

I've seen custom mirrors for the NSX that looked stock but included the V1 remote display, keeping things hidden while still allowing you to keep your eye on things. Is there nothing along these lines available for 911s?

Good post, thanks. Good information used from this and many other posts. I used the heated seat fuse socket, and put the remote on the "bat wing." Help much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure I saw an integrated V1 mirror in a Porsche dealership, but I was a little distracted and didn't take a close look.

Surely there is a V1 mirror for the 911 by now?

Just did this today, easy to splice right into the heated seat socket. one screw loosens fuse box its the purple wire, third from the right on the top of the fuse box, and then ground with the same screw holding the fuse box on... done in and out in 30 minutes...
