996 Turbo Drifting fun at Laguna Seca

During the Redline Time Attack held at Laguna Seca 11/9-11/07:

...What a great car. I was truly impressed with the balance, handling, and feel of this car. My only gripe would be that although you could turn PSM off, you couldn't turn everything off, their was some sort of yaw-control that would play with the ABS and prevent an intentional quick rotation of the car... Other than that, it was a dream to drive.

Nice pics. I hope that's not the corkscrew you're drifting through, if so you got some big ones.

The 1st pic was at the top of the corkscrew. The next 2 were in Turn-2, the "Andretti Hairpin".

I am surprised you could get the back end to come around and stay there with the AWD on the Turbo? Coming into the cork screw four wheel drift does take some BB....doesn't drifting the car through a turn scrub speed hence slower time?

Well the Turbo's AWD system dosn't send very much % to the front wheels. The car behaves like a RWD car and the fwd assist is very minimal, unintrusive, smart, and you don't really feel it like you would in a Skyline, let alone a FWD-based EVO or STI.

The 911 Turbo feels like a "really easy to drive RWD car". The AWD system is so good that it makes the car quite easy to drive.

Yes drifting the car to that magnitude does scrub speed and results in slower laps, but it's fun!

Having a little rotation into the corkscrew and turn 2 (the pics with the smoke) does result in a faster lap, but ideally you want their to be little to no counter-steering (straight on the steering wheel).

Very cool. Is the AWD system on a 996 C4S similar to the Turbo's with respect to very "little" going to the front wheels?

Man that is awesome, any videos? In my turbo it was pretty easy to get the back out with stock suspension , much easier to transfer the weight distribution! When I fully setup my suspension and sway it became damn near impossible without carrying crazy speed!

Funny how things change, now at the upcoming vir trackday I'm praying the back end stays put haha!

I'm sorry, I couldn't tell you as I do not know if they use the same AWD system, nor have I driven a 996 C4S...
