I'd like to know how long the PCCB last on a DE track car before needing replacement.

This is the key, can they last as long as an equal cost in steel rotors then it may be worth it.

I've tracked my car at least 20X and have over 7K miles on it. My PCCBs show very little wear.

20 days or 20 events (huge difference)

I'd have to see you drive also, I know people who may be able to do that on steel rotors. Different driving technique (and moreso speed) can play a huge factor in brake wear. But for 20 days, that is a long ways.

Tracks play a big role too.

So if they don't last as long as steel in equivalent dollars, but they significantly reduce unsprung weight, they aren't worth it?

I know guys who spend a fortune on lightweight track wheels (and lots of other lightweight parts that are not "unsprung") to get a significantly smaller reduction in unsprung weight. I don't get why the PCCBs would have to last as long as an equal cost in steel rotors to be "worth it"?

It's my opinion, maybe yours is different.

If you have to replace them anywhere near the amount you have to replace steel, then no they are not worth it (to me) for a fraction of a second off a lap time in a DE. You'll find many people buying stuff because they have the money and not the skill to take advantage of it. Especially in the Porsche crowd. Spending many thousands more to save a few hundreds here and there at DE's is laughable at best.

With the GT system you are in the realm of hundreds of dollars for replacement discs, rather than the thousands of dollars with PCCB.

As I mentioned at Homestead last time I saw you, Gary's words exactly. Brembo's are best option for you.

Pensalo bien ....

Theo, sorry we didnt have time to catch-up at Sebring, hope all is well...

as far as PCCB goes, i think we can all agree they do offer some significant performance gains, weight, wear, fade resistant etc...

The only drawback i can see, especially from a club racer p.o.v is the fact that they are pretty fragile compared to steel. One unlucky hit could cost you a few K$$, as where a steel rotor would be unscathed.

If your wallet is ok with this, go for it. Personally, i would stick with a Brembo GT kit, but thats just me

i have tracked the 997S with steels and they lasted about 25 de's front rotors i replaced and rears were replaced under warranty by dealer (they felt bad for me...)

i have now another 997s with pccb and wore thru a set of pads in only 3 DE days. i am getting faster but not that faster..some have said that the pads are very soft to preserve the ceramics. also the pads are VERY expensive (about 500$/pr at dealer and apparently only oem's are recommended..so you don't have a lot of choices with the pads....so pad replacement may be a cost issue. i bought this car used and came with pccb but probably would not get them if i had to pay for them...instead would get big brake set...
haven't noticed a huge difference in fade either...(i'm no racer yet) i know of some also who have cracked their ceramics changing wheels for the track fragility is an issue...
so if you are like me and don't have money to waste then don't get them .
cheapest pads on the internet for oem's may be around 350$ for front pads(not confirmed yet)

also a lot is said about no brake dust but after tracking just one time, now get brake dust(less than steels) everyday....

they do look nice and if yellow is your color you can get the big brake set painted with yellow caliper paint and buy the porsche decal

just my .02

mkk62, 25 de's on front rotors? You were using stock pads correct? I have 2 DE's on my stock rotors and I used Performance Friction PF97 pads and I have hairline cracks from the holes outward. I used Padgid Yellows on my last 997S and was about to need front rotors after 5 de's.
thanks! Mike

first dozen de days, i was really taking it easy and replaced the pads 3or4 times..
tehy weren't cracked, i just wore them down...i am guessing that with more aggressive race pads and driving that they create more friction and heat on the rotors which may expain your problem..if they are starting to crack i would put your oem pads on and take it to the dealer and there is a good chance they would replace the rotors under warranty...depends on your mileage...my dealer is now replacing a set of the oem pads for the ceramics under warranty after homestead last month because of a friction noise coming from the brakes...there is no sign of rotor wear after 3 de's but already changed the pads once...this will be the second pair...give it a shot nothing to lose...

My vote is for the Brembo GT kit.

-Much lighter than OEM.
-More responsive w/ better modulation
-Better pad shape and improved longevity.
-Rotors and pads will last SIGNIFICANTLY longer.
-Full Floating 2pc. rotor assemblies.
-Reduced unsprung and rotational weight savings.

And they look amazing.
Brembo just released Yellow as a standard color for the GT kit.

We are proud to be a tuning and development partner with Brembo.

Give us a call to place an order.
We keep Brembo GT kit’s in stock.
