Autocross wannabe
SubscribeI have never raced in an Autocross or Track event, and I have little racing experience. I've always wanted to experience the feeling of racing other cars on a track. If I wanted to gain experience and learn how to race properly, what would you recommend I do? Thanks.
You can start by doing SCCA Solo autocross events, they're a good way to learn car control, braking, all the essentials of going fast. HOwever, you dont get to race other cars. If you really want that competitive aspect of it I'd suggest you enroll in a racing school like Skip Barber or any of the factory performance schools put on by BMW, Porsche, etc. I've heard alot of good experiences from those, however, they can be very pricey (1-2k) per event I believe.
Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. Also, let's say you are racing your car in a road track event, and you happen to get into a wreck. Does a regular insurance policy cover this, or do you need a specific type of insurance for repairs?
i dont think regular insurance offers coverage on "off road" events such as tracking your car, but that will depend on what type of insurance you have.
Your best bet is to find your local clubs autocrosses and do a few. One car at a time no crashes and you can "compete"
Next and/or find the nearest race track and sign up for a DE, a driver education event. You will be on a full race track with controlled passing. You will have an instructor in your car. Insurance will cover these events as they are "educational"
After above, you may consider whatever local racing venues such as SCCA, NASA, PBOC etc. goggle them for more info.
Most important, get to a track and have some fun.

hi 10k, I don't personally track my cars, I only do SCCA stuff. I'm sure you can PM one of the guys that track their cars on this forum and ask. Or just put up a thread on Off Topic, ppl will respond alot faster to your specific question. Good luck!
